Taking Care of Our OWN Children…the Communities Hosted Their Own Afterschool Programs to Accompany the Children to Grow Up Safe & Sound

The afterschool program set up by the local communities…as children at that age needed the company of adults, as well as the adults’ guidance, but, with the parents working, who’s going to, look after them???  From the Front Page Sections, translated…

In the company program of young children that’s been working for over two years, the scholars found, that the children, with the company of adults, became happier, and showed more self-confidence as well.

The population of this program were elementary age children, with the funding from China Trust, and, the base was set up by the Taiwanese Care Management Associations.

“The Dream Base is NOT an afterschool program, but a place for the kids to go to after they’re out of school.”, the head social worker of the Department of Health & Sanitations, Lee said, that the base not only provided milk, juices, and supper, they’d also hired the college graduates locally, to plan the lessons locally, so the children can find their own dreams through learning.

There were currently twenty cities and counties, twenty communities that were involved in this program.  Like the Xihu Community’s Development programs, took the kids to make the umbrellas for the temple celebrations, the Dahu Community in Changwha had the elders teach the younger generations to plant rice and to pickle the vegetables, the Pineapple Chapter Community in Chiayi taught children to fold the laundries and sew the buttons on, the community in Hualien taught the tribe’s children to sing the folk songs, the Shi-An Community in Tainan had the children host a banquet, with the vegetables they’d grown themselves.

The Taiwanese Care Foundation’s office manager, Chang said, that she’d sent out a survey to close to 400 children who’d participated in the program, and found, that there’s a steady increase in their sense of security, how soundly they sleep, as well as focus in classes, and confidence level, and the children also thought, that learning from the elders in the communities can make them into better people as well.

So, this would be, a great program, better than those paid-for afterschool talent programs, as the children didn’t need to get shipped somewhere, to have someone to watch them until the parents get off work, they can socialize with the elders in the community, and learn from the experiences of the older generations.
