Lacking the Personnel of Elderly Homecare Providers? They Kept Their Employees on Staff with a Sense of Achievement

The beliefs of helping those with dementia and those who’d become immobilized live better in the elderly years, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

As there was a shortage in the personnel in homecare provider, the “Tong-Ren Ren-Ai Home” was going against the currents, the thirty-percent rate of quitting from three years ago, declined to just eight now; there were also, the homecare personnel from out of town, psychiatrists who’d signed up to work there.  The C.E.O. of the home said, it’s simple, “We’d helped them find their sense of achievement from work back again.”

Yesterday Lin made a speech at the annual TEDxTaipei meeting, which was focused on the issues of long-term care policies.  There were cases where, for the convenience of the nursing home staff, that they’d simply just, strapped the elderly who are incapacitated to their beds.  In order to empathize with the caretakers, he’d once restrained himself, as well as the nursing home care staff the same way for many hours, to know personally that “restraining someone to the bed is abuse.”

Lin had set up this new system of offering care, took the elderly in the homes and getting them out of the state of being of continually lying in bed, to help them learn to go to the restrooms, to feed themselves, to bathe, to regain their own independences.  There were elderly nearing a hundred, with osteoporosis, who’d stopped living on a wheelchair; there was a ninety-year-old elderly woman who was released from the hospital after being treated for a fracture that suggested to the care staff, “Take me to the rehab centers first, then we go home”.  It’d raised up the sense of achievement for the workers, along with lowered the rates of quitting too.

So, this is a new way, to view long-term care, not as a terminal station of life, but as only, a rest stop, so the elderly might have a chance to recover, and start living again, it’s a good thought.
