Life, the Obstacle Course

My Genie

Having someone who’s really handy, as an officemate, can you imagine the perks???  Translated…

There’s a saying, that we don’t usually get what we wished for, but I’d found, that with a kind heart, there would be, more blessings that come to us.  Mrs. Chien, who’d shared an office and my science classroom, was like my genie—the materials I’d thought up of using to teach the students, he could, provide it.  We’d placed some science toys in our classrooms, so the kids can manipulate them during break, like the water tornadoes, the shake-it electric generator, the vibrating caterpillar, etc., etc., etc., were all, handmade by him.

Once as we’d discussed magnets, I’d blurted out, “if there’s the motors for the students to see, it would be great.”, and after two class periods, I’d returned to the teacher’s office, and found, a dissembled small motor, with the parts labeled clearly, something that I can put back together simply, so very efficient, where’d it come from?  “Simple, I’d taken them out of broken toys!”“your wish is my command!”, illustration from the papers…

The genie from Aladdin needed to have a wish spoken to it, but my genie was even more tentative, without me wishing it, sometimes, there would be, surprises too.  We’d once made the simple motors with the gadgets, and made the circuits work, I’m more than satisfied, but he’d still taken apart the copper wires, bent them into shape, said, “try this!”, wow, it’s, a heart-shaped circuit!  We’d used the rule of symmetry, and, made several various shaped motors, as I started to gloat, the item he’d handed me, which was asymmetrical caught my eyes, it was, the balancing bird!  That seemingly tilted, but balanced wire, looked so amazing—why’d I not thought of it?

On one summer morning, I’d found a feather, and gave it to Mr. Chien, he’d told me we could use it to detect which way the wind was blowing, it was, unexpectedly, fun!  We’d walked to the teaching building, lifted our arms, the feather didn’t just, fly forward in motion, but instead, it’d, risen up with the air streams, until it’d, gotten past the top of the building, and, went over the buildings, flew, into the skies; turns out, that the light feathers aren’t only good for detecting the direction of the flow of air, but it’d surprised me, on how the air flowed, I’d subconsciously stated, “So fun!  But so unfortunate, that the feather had, flown off, and we can’t let the students try it!”, and, after my class period, I saw three little feathers, lying there, on my desk, it’d, sent my heart soaring.

Later on, I’d changed office, and, I stopped getting the perks, but, whenever I’d bumped into troubles in teaching, or needed something mechanical to manipulate, and even if it’s the appliances working against me, wouldn’t work right, my “genie” still grants me my wishes, it’d made me feel, that although I’m quite ordinary, but I’m, more than blessed.

So, this, is the interactions of someone with you from work, he is very handy and innovative, and created many interesting props for you to use as materials to teach your lessons to your students, and, it’s great, having this handyman around, to give you the supports you need from your job, and to bring a smile to your face too.
