How a teacher managed to, influence her student, to become better in life, how the former instructor inspired this individual, to become a teacher too! Translated…
Furry is my pen pal for the past twenty years, she was also, my high school homeroom instructor.
Wei-Ling Mao was strict by reputation, and, although the students feared her, we were all, awed by how much she’d put into teaching her classes, and so, we’d, nicknamed her “Furry”, out of endearment, to show how much we worshipped her. Twenty years ago, the cramming style of learning was implemented, and yet, in her classes, none of us, was tested for rote memorizations, instead, we’d become, sponges that soaked up the material; she’d allowed us to use drama, to bring the novels back to life, took us to the nursing homes, for us to understand, the meanings of life, took us to the botanical garden, to show us how the lotuses were able to come out of the muddy waters, unscathed………Furry made me set the goals of becoming a teacher at the age of seventeen, she’d helped me to know what kind of a teacher I want to become in life.
It’s the thirteenth year since I’d started working as a middle school instructor now, every time I’d felt the defeats from teaching the classes, I’d written to Furry, and she’d written me back, with the recommendations of books I can read to further my teaching skills; every time I’d received a thank-you card from a student, I’d written Furry too, to show, how I shared the same gratitude my students felt toward me as I’d felt toward her.
Thank you, my pen pal, and my teacher!
So, this is the depth of the effect of a teacher on a student’s life, and this instructor’s way of teaching had touched this individual, who’d become, a teacher too, and that would be, how much of an affect a good instructor can have on someone’s life.
