An Old Soul, on Parent-Child Interactions

From the observation of a mother, on her child, translated…

Back then, I’d thought, that an old soul lived in my daughter’s body.  Especially around bedtime, when she’d, begged me to tell her about the global community, the civil wars in Syria, those issues that adults have troubles talking about, I’d always doubted, that this wide-eyed, five-year-old child, is actually, an old lady in a young child’s skin.

Actually, I’d, noted that there’s, this “old soul” inside of my young daughter’s body since the start.  Recalling how the very first time I’d taken her to the ball pools, being just one year old, she’d, stared at the pool worth of colorful balls, and didn’t show any sign of excitement at all, just looked aloof, as my husband and I, placed her in.  Then, we observed her, all alone, as she, soaked in it all alone on her own, watched the other parents as they engaged their own young in a war of plastic balls, with that older-than-her years accusation of how childish the adults were behaving, in the end, we could only, put up our childishness, and fished out our little girl, and head home.

When my daughter turned two, we took her to the music clock.  The attractive clock hung there, outside the entrance of the malls, with the puppets popping out by the hours, dancing around, with the “It’s a Small World” playing.  As I was getting into the mood, singing along with the other kids, “it’s a small world after all!”, I’d taken a look at my own daughter, she’d minced her lips, and studied each and every of the puppets that came out, as if, she was trying, to determine what made them dance.  The elegant clock, in her careful examination of it, got turned back to the lifeless machine that it once was, and, it’d made it harder, for me, to live in the moment of this short fantasy, so I can only, return myself BACK to reality, and explained to her, how the physics of the clock worked.

At around three, her younger brother was born.  The old soul became, suddenly, burst out with maternal love, she’d called herself, his “Young stepmom”, had she not been able-bodied enough, otherwise, she would’ve changed my younger son’s diaper herself.  When my son was around one year of age, he’d contracted the cold virus, and passed it on to the rest of us, that time, my body became, so totally, wiped out.  My daughter who’d been clingy, after she’d recovered from the cold, she’d agreed to her grandmother’s offer, gone out with her grandmother and the rest of the relatives for a three-day, two-night trip away.  After she’d come back, based off my mother, other than the meals, the ventures, and sleep, she’d spent the rest of the time crying.  I couldn’t understand it, so I’d asked my daughter, “”If you missed home so much, why did you go?”,  she’d replied, “Because I know you’re very fatigued, so I’d, forced myself to go out, so you wouldn’t have to look after me.”, then added, “This, is the grandest kind of love I can give you and younger brother.

look into those eyes so deep…not my photo still…

This stubborn little old lady, she was originally very fragile, but for the sake of the rest of us, presented herself as very strong.  Her intellect, and early maturing, awed me, and it’d made my heartache, I can’t help but wonder, “Hmmmmmm, whose temperament did this child take after?”, being not-yet-five, without thinking for another second, she’d stated, “I’m like myself!”

Yup, this old soul, is like NO other, just herself, or rather, every child’s soul is, unique.  As a mother, I only need to, quietly, accompany by, and allow her, to grow at her own pace, or perhaps, grow younger as she grows up, I suppose.

So, this, is how “ripened” this young child is, and there are children who are born this way, there’s, that old soul, living inside their bodies, and we don’t really know why, but these children are usually very sensitive, very observant, and they’re, easily affected by the emotions of everybody else around them, so, in order to help these children grow up safe and sound, their adult counterparts needed to be, more than stable too.
