My daughter’s friend always had on different children’s clothes, and every time I’d met up with them, the child’s clothes were sometimes, modern, sometimes, retro, and it’s very identifiable, “Must be made by Jiao, right?”
Jiao, the nurse’s aide that works for my daughter’s classmate’s family, was responsible for looking after the elderly at home, taking care of her/him. When she’s not working, she’d taken out the family members no-longer-worn clothes, and after her delicate hands worked through them, she’d made a unique looking child’s outfit.
Working hard in Taiwan, Jiao sent most of her money back to her husband, and her son knew how hard his mother worked, and every time they talked, he’d told her how much he missed her, it’d made Jiao’s heart feel at ease.
And this year, the elderly at my friend’s house needed the help from the machines and professional care, and it was time, for Jiao to go home too.
My classmate’s family who works as a security guard for the community would normally take the recycled machineries that the neighbors didn’t want, and fix it up; that day, he saw that there was an old sewing machine, he’d quickly took it in, after fixing it up, and oiling it, he’d given it to Jiao to take it back with her.
The women who’d left at the same time as Jiao to go home, several years having passed, even if they’d not bought a home in their home country, their economics turned for the better, but not for Jiao’s household, not one bit—Jiao’s husband took ALL her earnings, and gave it to another woman he was with, and he’d not watched over their son, which caused their son to have an awful set of value systems.
After leaving home for many years, what awaited her was, her husband’s affair, the troubled teen, we all felt heartache over her for it. But gladly, Jiao reconnected with my classmate awhile ago, she’d sent a photo of herself—she’d not changed that much in appearances, but, there was that long soft ruler around her neck; starting everything over again, although she’d, lost a lot, but she’d managed, to find a brand new life for herself, established, in her career now.
So, this is usually what happens, when a migrant worker comes over here to work, she’s leaving behind her family and children, and, while she was away from her home, her husband usually CHEATS on her, while the women working still kept sending the money back home, until they wake up, or that they still remained fooled by the men, but this woman had learned a skill, and put her learned skill to good use, and this still showed, how important it is, for all of us, women, to have a skill that we can live off of, that way, we wouldn’t need to, depend on men
