There’s an Increase in Juvenile Scam Artists, and Setting a Heavy Fine Won’t Cure the Problem

Trending now, and it’s not the good kind of a trend either!  From the Front Page Sections, translated…

The younger generations were originally the prospect of the nation’s futures, but because they were enticed by the money, and were, used by the scam rings, and worked as the pawns that went out to withdraw the money from the ATMs, although the government proposed a more severe punishment, but, in recent years, these younger generations of scam artists were increasing by the number, becoming the worries of this country, and, there’s the need of the parents, the families, working with the schools, to prevent this.

The estimates from the Taichung District Courts showed, that in 2014, there were only 335 youths who were found guilty of fraud, in 2015, there were 437, and last year, the number increased to 478.  There’s this steady increase of youth scam artists, which showed the failures of the newly implemented policies to severely punish the frauds aren’t working properly, and, the parents of the youths were collateral damages, as the victims are allowed, to demand the parents of these youths to pay for their children’s crimes.

The infamous scam artists are running loose everywhere, the manager of district attorneys of the Taichung High Courts stated, that “the scam artist rings are committing the crimes internationally, they’d brought shame to Taiwan’s name in Southeast Asia, to the rest of the world, Taiwan is now, a kingdom of scams.”, it’d severely, destroyed the images of our country as a nation of the world.

Because of this, the government had set up stricter rules of punishment for the scam rings, those found guilty will be serving a sentence of no more than seven years, implemented three years ago; and on top of that, the newly amended criminal organization prevention laws were fitted for fraud suspects, implemented this April, the primary suspect and the drivers can receive a jail sentence of no more than ten years.

The head of the scam rings found their ways, and absorbed the younger generations who are very inexperienced as drivers, while they’re out of country, remotely controlling the youths; and on the other hand, as the youths did the crimes, they were able to receive up to tens of thousands of dollars in return, it’s easier money compared to working part-time at the 24-hour convenience stores or restaurants, and a lot of the members of the younger generations were enticed into getting involved by these huge pay-offs.

The amendments to the laws can only cure the symptoms, not get to the roots of the causes of the symptoms, and, those who were caught and punished were mostly the drivers, in order to fix this problem as a whole, we would need the rest of the country’s working hand in hand, with the schools, the families, paying more attention to the youths, to work together as gatekeepers, teaching the children about laws from they were younger, that way, we would be able to, rid ourselves of the bad reputation of “the country of frauds”.

That, is why the teens are easily targeted by the scam artists’ rings, because they’re replaceable, and, they only needed to pay them a smallest amount, to get them to work as drivers, and because of how much money is promised to the younger generations, that, is why the younger generations are so easily, taken.
