Police’s use of excessive force is still NOT an isolated thing in the U.S., it’s happened here too, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
The Five Wounds Were Around the Waist, the D.A. Demanded to Confiscate All the Secret Recordings to Examine the Matter, the Migrant Worker Union Went to the Police Affairs Department to Protest, and Strongly Suspected the Timing of the Shooting.
The Officer from Zhubei Substation in Hsinchu on the 31st of Last Month Was Helping the Law Enforcement Official, Lee Take Care of a Case with a Vietnamese Escaped Worker, Nguyen’s Attempt to Crack Open a Car to Commit Burglary, He’d Shot the Suspect Nine Times, Causing Nguyen to Die on the Way to the Hospital. The District Attorney’s Office Did an Autopsy, and Found that There Were Up to Eighteen Bullet Holes on the Deceased, at Least Six on His Torso, Around His Waist, and They’d Already Confiscated All the Secret Recordings, to Investigate if the Officers Had Used Excessive Power.
The Taiwan Migrant Workers’ League yesterday called out for the support for the deceased, they’d called about seventy of its members to the front of the Police Department to protest, and they’d all doubted that the timing of the police shooting the migrant worker to death was questionable, and demanded the police show the surveillance footages, so the truth will come out.
The Hsinchu D.A.’s Offices stated, that Nguyen’s gunshot wounds were around his leg and waist, and in the preliminary, they’d found him shot in the foot once, and, five shots were into his waist, there were, a total of eighteen bullet holes on him. The friends of the deceased told, that Nguyen was a runaway migrant worker, he’d stole care and attacked the voluntary police officers, which were all bad behaviors, but the police having shot him so many times, this was beyond reasonable, and not within the legal realms, and they’d asked the D.A. to find out the cause of his death.
The Migrant Workers’ Union believed, that there’s only the statements from the police, they’d doubted the justifications of the officers shooting the man; and, the officers shooting him at close-range nine times, was that in accordance to the principles of ratios, the Police Department should really look into that, and provide the footages of the shooting so everything is clarified.
The Department Head of the Police Agency’s International Department, Chen took the papers from the civilians, and stressed how the case is already sent to the Hsinchu’s D.A.’s office to investigate, that all the related footages, the evidences were already, turned over to the D.A. The Police Agency also said, that there are not just rules and regulations of how the police should be using their guns, there were also rules in accordance to the situations when guns should be used, that they will continue training and enforcing the rules of thumb for the officers.
The Zhubei Substation stated that they’d respected the laws of gun usage of the police officers, and are currently, working in accordance to the requests of the D.A.’s office, and are helping the family members, as well as the Vietnamese Consulate to set up the final affairs; the police used force based off of the law, and they wouldn’t rule in favor, just because the shooter was an officer.
The 27-year-old Nguyen last month on the morning of the 31st, bashed a motorcycle by the Fengshan Creek in Zhubei, and pushed the motorcycle into the river; the police were called and arrived, they saw Nguyen without his shirt on, sitting in his pickup, attacking them with rocks. Based off of the investigations of the local police precinct, Officer Lee pepper-sprayed him multiple times, but couldn’t make him stop, he was kicked in the nose by Nguyen and had a contusion on his face, and nose ridge fracture, officer Chen after Nguyen jumped into the squad car, in his attempt to take it, at five meters out, he’d fired off into the squad car at Nguyen, he died before getting to the hospital.
So did the police use too much force? Perhaps, but, this man was dangerous, or he may be high on something, and was disgruntled, and, heaven only knows what he was capable of doing, and so, the officers did the only thing they knew of, to subdue him, they’d shot him, and maybe, the officers used too much force, but hey, in this situation, it’s usually hard to tell who was right or wrong, under the circumstances, and this is all in hindsight, so, it’s easy, to make conclusions about whether or not the officers did what they were supposed to do, or if they’d abused their power, but, during the time, they may have done the only thing they knew of, to stop this migrant worker from attacking and injuring them.
