Five Members of the Public Were Carried Away by the Waves in Zhuwei, the Grandfather Drowned, the Boy Held on Tightly to the Floatation Device, Drifted Along, Three Others Made it Back on Shore Safely.
The sixty-three-year-old man, Yo took his seven-year-old grandson to the Zhuwei fisher’s wharf’s beach side to swim, a large wave hit them, took them out to sea; the seven-year-old child held on tightly to the floatation device he had, and was rescued eight hundred meters away from the shore, Yo was found three hours after the waves took him, but he’d already, drowned.
The father of the child, Yo stated, that he’d needed to work yesterday, his parents took his son to swim in the Zhuwei fishers’ wharf, an accident was the last thing he’d expected to happen; he said, his father was a swimmer, he’d hoped, that his father could, escape death, “but the waves were huge………”, as he’d spoken, he’d, started sobbing.
The Fire Department of Taoyuan’s emergency center received a call at around eleven o’clock around noontime, said that there were five people who were swimming in the Zhuwei Fishers’ Wharf who were carried away by the waves, they’d immediately sent out the rescue boats with the emergency personnel, they’d also notified the air-squad to send out helicopters to search, as well as the coastguards too, and the water rescue foundation also sent out its members.
As the rescuers arrived, the three foreign workers who were carried away already swam back to shore, but the grandfather-grandson pair wasn’t found yet, they’d immediately sent out four robber boats to search. Not long thereafter, the rescuers found the child, grabbing tightly onto his own floatation device, afloat just eight hundred feet away from the safety docks, they’d immediately rescued him. He was in shock, hypothermic, very conscious, he was accompanied to the hospital by his grandmother, he wasn’t in life-threatening danger.
The witnesses pointed out, that the three migrant workers were originally swimming, and the three of them seemed to have gone into the oceans to search for the grandfather-grandson pair who were carried off by the waves, but, because the waves were too large, they’d swum back to shore and left.
As the child was rescued, the search and rescue team went on the floaters to search for his grandfather, and the air assistance team also flew out on the choppers to search, over three hours later, Yo floated to the shores, someone hollered, “Someone’s on the beach”, the rescuers went to check, and identified him as Yo, but he already stopped breathing.
The Third Squad of the Taoyuan Fire Department stated, that the grandfather and grandson fell into the oceans around the same time, the child had a floatation device and was rescued, and that Yo probably lost consciousness shortly after he fell in, and then, drowned.
Based off of understanding, the Zhuwei Fishers’ Wharf was an “unopened and restrict section of the beach”, but the members of the public disregarded the warning signs, and still went in to swim. The Fire Department called out, that the members of the public should go swimming where there are lifeguards, and not head out to dangerous sections like the streams, or the dangerous zones in the oceans, especially during the typhoon seasons, they should stay away from the waters, to keep oneself safe.
So, these people disregarded the warning signs, and now, this grandfather had, paid the dear price with his life, and that still just showed, how although there are warning signs, how easily it is, to get overlooked by the members of the public, until it’s, too late, something like this happens…
