Death, by negligence is what this was!  From the Front Page Sections, translated…

A man, Lee in Taoyuan worried that his father who’d been paralyzed for nineteen years might crawl out the door, he’d tied the bedroom door up with scout’s rope and left the responsibilities of looking after him to his alcoholic mother, his father died in the room, and maggots started growing out of his corpse.  The first trial found Lee guilty of death by neglect, he was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years’ prison, the Highest Courts believed, that he receives $22,000N.T.’s per month for work, and had to look after his ill parents, and reduced his sentence to four years based off his pitiful situation at home.

Lee’s father suffered a hemorrhage on the left base of his brain in October of 1998, he’d become paralyzed on the left side, lost the ability to speak, five years later, he’d suffered another stroke on his right hemisphere, became paralyzed on the left side, immobilized, and couldn’t care for himself; Lee’s mother was a long-term alcoholic, three years ago, she was diagnosed with liver disease, kidney failure, along with other multiple conditions.

Two years ago in May, Lee bound his father’s with a scout’s rope and stopped paying him any heed, he’d not only not cleaned off his own father, didn’t clean the bedroom, there were, piled up eaten lunches, bottles and plastic bags inside; his father died of organ failure due to a lack of nutrition, causing his immunity to decline.

He’d stated, that every day he’d provided the foods, and had his mother give it to his own father, but she worried that he might physically abuse her, she’d just put the food outside his door.  He’d stated, that he’d been taking care of his father long-term, he did everything that he could, that he was so sad, that things had, ended like so.  He said, he’d not had any forms of pleasures, reduced as much costs as he can, that life was, really difficult on him.

The High Courts believed, that Lee knew that his mother couldn’t care for his father alone, but didn’t bother, that there was the intentions of abandoning his own father; but taking into considerations that his father had a stroke nineteen years ago, and he’d needed to look after his own mother with multiple conditions, was strained mentally, and he was a registered lower income household, based off of the 59th addendum, his sentence is reduced.

So, this, is when life hits the hardest, but, the sentence was still too light, in this man’s neglect causing the death of his own father, this family has its share of problems, and, they’d just, allowed everything to deteriorate by the day, and the end result was, the death of this man, due to the lack of care.
