The Hsinbei City government pointed out, that the crises of the world’s youth being unemployed is becoming more and more serious, and it’d, hit Taiwan as well, the most serious impacts of unemployment was found in the group ages fifteen to twenty-four, the higher degree is no longer a guarantee for a job.
The city government stated, that the international banking crises, the debts in Europe had impacted the global economy, the world’s youth’s unemployment rate became worsening by the day, the international labor community pointed out how two years ago the rate of unemployment of the age group was only 12.9 percent, and this year, it will increase to 13.1 percent; the steady rate of unemployment in the world is at 5.7 percent to 5.8 percent, which clearly showed that the youths are facing with difficulties finding employment.
“The primary reason may be that the schooling periods were, lengthened”, the Hsinbei City government found, that both South Korea and Taiwan offered the opportunities of attaining a higher education, Taiwan had set up numerous colleges and universities, as the foreign youths were entering into the workforce, most of the Taiwanese their age were still in school; and, people here are retiring early, and this had caused, the reduced number of laborers in the workforce.
The twenty-three-year-old graduate student, Lin said, choosing to keep in study or to find a job will be a very important decision, if I choose to continue my education, by the time I earned my doctorate, I’ll be around thirty, and, if I’d gone abroad to study, by the time I’d come back, I’ll be, approaching midlife; if I want to find work after I received my bachelors, I couldn’t beat the mainstream demands of how they’re looking to hire those with at least a master’s degree, I’m basically stuck, it’s very, awkward.
A doctorate student be age forty had been studying hard, with absolutely, NO work experiences; after receiving the doctorate, he was having troubles, finding that teaching position formally, and, faced hardships in the job interviews, and to this day, he’s still, a “tramping instructor”, part-timed as a lecturer around the private universities all around.
The last year student from Fujen University, Wu said, friends his age there were about half who are preparing to enter into the workforce, and half working on attaining a higher education, the problem lies in that they’d been studying for over ten years, and they’d not have a clue, what they can do with the education that they’d received. Felt like I know a little of everything, but NOT specialized in anything, and I feel clueless of my own future.
In order to help the younger generations find their directions in life, the Hsinbei City since 2014 started offering job training courses, first the interviews, then, the job training, then, start working, up to this year, there were, a total of ninety five courses ordered, with 2,333 people trained, and 1,574 individuals getting jobs; and, starting in the higher grades in the elementary years, they planned to help the students start discovering where their interests lie, hoping to help them understand what they’re interested in, hoping, to reduce the time they will spend in the futures, finding that right job.
So we still have here, a ton of master’s, doctorate holders, with absolutely, ZERO clue of what they want to do with their lives, it’s still because of this lack of exploration when they’re younger, and, the city’s finally realized that this is a big problem, and start implementing the policies to help these youths dip their toes into the various fields of works, to help them discover their areas of interests here.
