The thoughts about the current government’s attempt, to ERADICATE all the ties to China! From the Front Page Sections, translated…
The recent discussion of what should be studied in the Chinese courses, the proportions of ancient Chinese texts, had roused up great debate, with neither side willing to, take a step backward. I am not a literature, nor a linguistic major, nor am I a high school instructor, and it’d been, years since I was in high school. I merely want to present the issues, from an alternative angle.
Back when I was in high school, “the Poems of the Tang Dynasty” and “The Ancient Stories from the Eras Before”, were mandatory Chinese reading materials. Just like the high school students now, back then, reading these two texts wasn’t exactly too painful, but, it’d not made me want to be closer to the ancient style texts. And because my school would pull the students out of all the classes to recite a verse every morning at the flag ceremonies, in order to not make a fool of myself, I’d still, attempted to memorize the verses, it was for the sake of in case I get selected to recite, that I’d needed to. It wasn’t until I’m much older, did I realize the intentions of my school instructors, in making us memorize the passages, and how important those ancient texts are to our lives.
The writings coming from the hearts, everybody’s writings showed their logic, how their minds worked, whether it be in Chinese, or any other languages. Many years since, I’d had the opportunity to revise the drafts of the graduate students, and I’d found, that those with issues in writing in English (non grammar related), had a ton of troubles in expressions in Chinese too. I’d looked into the reasons, it’s still on logic. Most graduate students would think about the questions in Chinese, then, expressed the answers in English.
Then, how would reading, studying the ancient texts help logic? The passages that were selected to get put into the before mentioned two ancient Chinese texts were selected, out of millions of passages, with the usages delicate, the storylines flowing, full of clarity. After understanding how the contents was expressed and the origins of the contents, reading those passages until you can recite them will help the students with logical skills and with expressing oneself precisely and clearly.
Recently, the government is encouraging the various levels of students to write out the formulas, the purpose of which is for the students to use clear logic to solve the problems. The formulas are a form of language, precious, in how precise it is. Without the clear logical thinking skills, and the precise expressions, the students may write out formulas that represent that of spaghetti and meatballs (tangled together). Students, trust someone who’d been there, while you’re still young and can still remember a lot of the things, study more of the ancient texts, and no matter what field you go into, it will surely, help you.
So, this, is the importance of not deleting the ancient Chinese texts out of the textbooks, but the government right now is doing all that it possibly can, to slash out these important texts that relate to our collective pasts, and, by so doing, the government is actually, harming its people, because, no good can come of not knowing where you come from!
