Yesterday, the Hsinbei City government hosted the grand opening of the “Playing to Remember Resources for Caretaking of Demented Elderly”, inside the community center, there’s a combination of technological advances, separating the area into three parts: experiences, rehabilitation, and display, to help the members of the public understand dementia better, at the same time, with the displays of the newest technologies that are being used, to help with the caretaking of the demented elderly population, to help alleviate the stresses on the individual families.

The Department of Sanitations pointed out, that there’s an estimate of over 38,000 elderly in the city of Hsinbei who are diagnosed with dementia currently, the highest of the entire nation; dementia shouldn’t be overlooked, it takes about eight to ten years, from the start of diagnoses to becoming completely incapacitated, not factoring in the medical costs, it’d cost every patient with dementia $400,000N.T. to get taken care of, from the population of the city of Hsinbei, there needed $15.2 billion N.T. in funding.
The mayor, Chu stated, that there’s no cure for dementia currently, and the long processes of caretaking became burdensome to the individual families, the city government is working with seven core hospitals to set up a network, to push forth demented-friendly communities, to set up a system of supportive network which the families can rely on.

He’d also said, that the Remembrance Academy is the MOST important piece of the puzzle for the caretaking of demented elderly network, it’s set up by the city government, to develop a technological platform for caretaking of demented elderly, so the families can feel less stress, and feel more secure.
