Life, the Obstacle Course

Before the Calls Ended

Working as a customer services representatives, answering the calls, translated…

“Thanks so, very much, couldn’t have, done it, without you!”

Before I hung up, my client stated this to me so suddenly, before I’d had the time to react, he’d already, hung up.

a positive attitude, a helpful mannerism, these, are two of the most imporatnt qualities that a customer service rep needs, not my photo…

In college, I’d gone into the customer services industries, worked in the finances, the publish, the information technologies, the English cram schools, at the end of the calls, the various companies had subtle differences, but, having a good attitude, that was, a must, and not hanging up sooner than our clients, that, is a most important thing in our line of work.

At the end of the calls, most of the clients would say, “Thank you”, “Goodbye”, out of courtesy, but, it doesn’t always end this smoothly every single time.

As I was working in an appliance shop, I’d often received calls of complaints by the clients who’d bought the appliances, and the electronics, and because the shop I’d worked for sold the daily necessity appliances that are highly priced, the people who’d called to complaint were mostly, emotional, and I’d often, needed to adjust my own attitudes.  But, there were, good days in my customer services experiences too.

As I was working in an English teaching institution, a young man found, that all of the customer services representatives were women, as he’d called in, he’d often asked, “What color are your panties today?”, and, no matter what I’d answered him, before he’d hung up, he’d always said courteously, “Thank you”, later on, I’d found, that it didn’t matter the color of the panties, he’d just, needed someone to talk with.

As I worked in the publishing companies, I’d received a call from an older client, she’d wanted to get into contact with a writer of a health-medical volume; in the conversations, I’d noted that she lived alone, was troubled by illnesses, but because of the privacy laws, I can only help her search for related public records online for her.  Gladly, after I’d found that the writer was treated the clients at a certain clinic, she was so happy after I’d told her, before the call ended, she’d stated to me, “Thank you, something wonderful will, surely, happen to you.”

dealing with a call er like this…

you may feel like this…not my photos..

If it’s a good customer service experience, I’d turned it into my nutrient, and if the customers called to complain about something, I’d treated it as a learning experience too.

“Hi, it’s you again!”, as the phone was picked up, we’d recognized one another as we’d started chatting—it was, the man who’d, ended the calls so abruptly the last time.

After I’d resolved his problems, he’d stated with that gratitude in his voice, “Thank you so much, don’t know what I would’ve done without you.”, with the same exaggerated tone of voice, I couldn’t help but laugh, and, before he hung up, added, “Thank you.”

So, working in customer services, it’s, nothing easy, you would get mostly, calls of complaints, and, being surrounded by so much negative, you’d needed to have a very high E.Q., and needed to be able to empathize with the callers, and you can’t let your own bad moods to affect your work, and, yet, you would have the chances, to meet up with a ton of people who light up your life, and you would be able to, help brighten someone else’s days as well too.
