The Surviving Father and Daughter from the Five Suicides in Penghu Left a Note on Her Text, “Time to Go”, Committed Suicide with Her Father by Burning Charcoal

The case of deaths in the family, of two household in Penghu, five people committed suicide, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

In January of this year, there was a case of collective suicide by charcoal of the relatives, with four deaths one seriously wounded in the process; the woman who’d survived, Chen, yesterday, was found with her father, having locked themselves in the storage where just six months ago, the family members had, died in, attempted suicide by burning charcoal.  The investigators suspected that the father-daughter pair couldn’t get over the fact of how their close loved ones had, died, plus the long term pressures of “patient-caretaker” relationship, they’d affected each other negatively.

Chen’s family of four, and his sister’s family of three, originally lived together in a three-story mansion in Penghu; on the evening of January 6th, Chen (age 59) and his brother-in-law, Tsai as they returned home, they’d found the front door locked, after they’d entered from the back, they’d discovered Chen’s wife, thirty-three-year-old eldest daughter, eighteen-year-old second daughter, the wife of Tsai (age 55), and her twenty-five year-old daughter, committed suicide by burning charcoal in the storage, they’d immediately called emergency, and was only able to save Chen’s eldest daughter.

After the tragedies, Tsai moved away, Chen and his eldest still lived in the house, but yesterday, the father-daughter pair were found to have killed themselves by suicide.  The police told, that the six members of the family who’d died left NO note, they’d only found the text message in Chen’s eldest’s cell, “It’s time to go.”

The police found, that Tsai’s wife suffered emotional problems from her serious illness, and as others took care of her, they’d become, overwhelmed too.  The suicide that’s occurred at the start of this year, the police checked and found, that it was Chen’s wife who’d gone out and bought the charcoal, and they were able to find the fingerprints of all five members of the family on the tapes that are used to seal off the windows and doors too, which made the police believed this to have been a mass suicide.

The police stated, that the other daughter from Tsai’s family who’d married to Taiwan worried that her uncle, Chen and younger cousin, she’d called them up every single day to check on them, and yesterday morning, the phone was not picked up, and she’d instinctively felt something wasn’t quite right, she’d called the police and notified her own father, Tsai, to go with a relative to check the house.

As the relatives arrived, they’d shattered the window to the house, not long thereafter, the police and the fire department arrived, and found that the second-floor storage had been locked from the inside, they’d broken the door down, found Chen and his daughter dead for a long time, with just two pots with the ashes of burned up charcoal next to them.  The D.A. came to examine the bodies, and found there to have been no signs of external forces, but, the clear cause of death is still pending investigation.

The man in charge of the local borough, Yen told, that Chen was very quiet, since his daughter and wife died, the daughter who was saved from committing suicide had no job, and nobody in the neighborhood saw her out, and nobody talked with either one of them; he and other charitable foundations would visit them from time to time, but, mostly, they’d offered them monetary supports.  He believed, that Chen couldn’t get out from the gloom of his wife and daughter’s suicide, that, was how he’d ended up, committing suicide too.

So, had someone paid more attention to the family, showed a little MORE emotional/psychological support that this father and daughter needed, then, all of this may well be, avoided but it wasn’t, and now, there are, two more losses in life for this family.
