The Minister of Justice, Chiu stated yesterday, that the younger generations at a party, without the illegal substances, it’s like a birthday celebration without a cake, drug abuse had, become, a huge part of entertainment now, and, the drug abuse prevention policies, needed, to get reworked. The Attorney General, Yen stated, that drug-related crimes are now, an issue of national security.
The Supreme District Attorney’s Office, in order, to implement the new drug prevention policies, invited the district attorneys, the police officers, the investigators, the coastguards, the military, a total of six major system chiefs to a meeting. Chiu posed his new observation for the drug cases; and he and others in the meeting all agreed, that drug busts are now, the most criminal prohibition for the current government, that it’s the key, to keep this society safe to live in.
Chiu said, the developments of the illegal substances are quite different from before, from before, people used it sparingly, but now, the younger generations are already, consuming level three, and level four illegal substances as a form of entertainment now.
He said, that seventy-percent of the illegal substances found in Taiwan came from out-of-country, that Taiwan had become, a victim of drugs now. Currently, the country already built up a database on the illegal substances, that the new program need to place focus on the users, not only is there a need, for drug busts, but also, the government need to show more care and concerns for the abusers as well, to stop the sales, as the age of the drug abusers lowers, the varieties of drugs increased, then, the country need to, rework its drug prevention policies.
The General District Attorney, Yen pointed out, that Taiwan had engage in this war with illegal substances for over thirty years, but, the new users, along with criminal cases relating to the users are increasing by the day, the crimes with drugs had become, a matter of national security now.
Yen said, last year, the District Attorney’s Offices handled about 27a little over sixty thousand drug-related cases, and, there were, a total of 27,000 inmates serving for drug related offenses, making up about half of the population in the prison systems, the sweep period is from May to the end of next year, hoping, that by 2019, the government would have a total number of drug users and abusers, and, hopefully, this system to counter the drugs will be seen, by 2020.
So, because the drugs are, infiltrating into the society here, and there are more and more cases of drug-related deaths, which, is why the government here, is on a CRACK-DOWN, but, even IF the system gets set up, and is running smoothly (which I’m betting, that it won’t work that well at all!!!), there are still, going to be slip-ups, as fighting this war against drugs is a long-term, and an uphill battle, especially when the age of users is still on the decline…
