Those, WERE, our good ol’ days, translated…
During those days, the elementary school students were able to head home for their lunches. It was only a ten-minute walk from school to home, but, before class resumed again, I always got so caught up in the puppet shows and was late. Every time this exciting Pipeline started sounding off, “Those Who Comply Live, Those Who Don’t, Die, I am, the Source of All Evil, the Man Behind the Mirrors, hahaha!”, after this classic line, it came, the protagonist, Yen-Wen Shen’s duel to the DEATH with the Man Behind the Mirrors, and, knowing, that if I don’t leave for school I’ll be late. But I couldn’t take my eyes away from the T.V. set. During that time of lacking in resources, no internet, and no cell phone, the focus in entertainment, for the little people are the puppet shows, so, San Liu, Weird Old Guy, Rabbit Tooth, these interesting characters, became our idols; when we’re all alone, we’d modeled after them, spoken the words that they had, gestured like they would, with a few classic lines, then, everybody laugh out loud (back then, if we don’t speak in Mandarin in school, we would get punished!). The memories were scented, the “pipelines” roused up those wonderful memories of our school years, and, enrich the lunches for those of us born in the sixties too.
and, here’s the antagonist from that show…
here he is, from someone’s collection, photo from online…
So, during those days of having not enough of material resources provided to you, you all still managed to find your own kinds of enjoyments, entertainments, and, those, were the simpler days, compared to how much materialistic CRAP this current generation has, and, this current generation is still that much better off than the generations before!
