Since the alternative army serviceman, Chiu started serving his alternative army terms last July in Heping Elementary School in Keelung, he’d offered afterschool tutoring sessions for the students in the school, a short while ago, he’d finished serving his army terms, all of the 200 students in the school took turns saying goodbye to him one by one, teary eyed, kept hollering, “We don’t want you to go!”. The school’s principal, Chuang said, he’d not only offered afterschool tutoring to the students, if the students didn’t show up, he’d gone to their separate homes to get them to class, although he wasn’t a formal instructor, “but he’d behaved more like a teacher than a formal school teacher.”
“Big brother Guo-Wei, don’t go!” “Don’t leave us, Mr. Guo-Wei”, the students called aloud to him, it’d caused Chiu to cry, the students started signing his shirt as memorabilia. Chiu called out for the help from other instructors.
Chuang said, “I’d still owed him eight days off”, Chiu rarely took days off, always stated, “I’d wanted to spend more time with the students.”
After Chiu graduated from the graduate programs in marketing, last July, he was assigned to Heping Elementary School for his alternative service term, he’d almost always stayed after school, to help counsel the students, and help them with their English classes, and even assisted in coaching the kids in table tennis too, because the students’ best assistance, whenever the students have troubles, they’d gone to him, he’d become, more of a mentor to them.
“There are so many memories for my final day here, the ten months it’d lasted, but I was really enjoying working here, and not felt a bit fatigued by work at all, I hope that my students will obey their future instructors.”, as Guo-Wei Chiu spoke to the very end of his farewell video to his students, he couldn’t help, but start crying again.
So, this, is how attached someone can get, to the kids he’d helped teach, because these kids are from the distant regions, which means, that they’d still carried that scent of innocence, compared to the students in the bigger cities, and, because this man poured his heart and soul into teaching the students, the students felt how much he’d cared for them, which was why, the whole class became so very attached to this “big brother” person, that came into their lives.
