The legislators passed the rough drafts of the Prevention of Youth and Children Sex Act yesterday, and it’d stated that “any who are involved in filming, producing photos, video footages, DVDs, e-mails of youth or children engaging in sexual behaviors or sexual molestations” shall be sentenced to anywhere between a year and seven years in prison, with the fines of no more than a million dollars.
The legislator, Chen believed, that this was, too lenient, that the government should openly post the predators’ addresses, and photographs too, like the U.S. system of tracking sexual predators. The second-in-command of the Health and Protections Department said that she will look into the matter and consider, and in three months, there will be a hearing on the matter, which the experts would present their opinions on the matter, hoping, to gain consensus from the public, then, decide whether or not the laws should be implemented.
Lu said, that the mapping of the sexual predators in the States had been implemented for years already, and there are cultural differences, population differences in Taiwan, that after the sexual predators were posted, it may, alarm them, and heighten the alert of the parents in the neighborhood, but it can also have the opposite effect, that they still needed to look into the matter more, to decide whether or not to implement the laws.
So, this is basically, STUPID, just because a law worked well in some other country, that still doesn’t mean that it will work just as well in this country, and, because the sentence is still too lenient, the punishment not severe enough, it won’t do any good, in preventing the sexual predators from striking again!
