MY father was hospitalized since April 2nd, for two weeks, during which time, his heart failed, he had emphysema, shortness of breath, lower abdomen bloating, his diabetes went out of control, and received a total of EIGHT diuretic shots a day, and still, couldn’t get the urine out, followed by kidney failure, the water and liquids only went in, but doesn’t come out. My younger sister worried that my father may not have enough physical strengths, and, decided on the feeding tubes for him, wanting to alleviate him of his pains, the family decided to put my father through dialysis first. This thought, before it ever got put into actions, my father died in his sleep, after he came out of a coma.
Whether or not to sign the D.N.R., this, is difficult for people to decide, and a lot of children didn’t want to carry the name of not fulfilling their filial piety obligations, started struggling, when the subject of life or death comes up.
So, this, is very hard for the patient, as well as the loved ones, because the patient’s body is slowly deteriorating away, and, the families are now, needing to decide whether or not to get all the vital signs back up, and in this particular case, the father of the writer decided for himself, he chose to die, instead of getting intubated!
