Elderly Taking Care of Elderly

During the Lunar New Year’s, I’d taken a two-week off, I’d originally planned to drive my eighty-year-old mom around to travel, but, she’d broken her femur. It was a Sunday, there wasn’t an osteopathic surgeon on duty, I’d called up an ambulance, and lifted her to Mennuo Hospital, and thankfully, there was a osteopathic surgeon on duty, and was willing to operate on my mom.

My mom’s surgery was successful, by the time they’d wheeled her back into her room was already late in the nights. For these six days, I’d accompanied close by, and used my past experiences of caring for dad, this time, everything came easily. The night before my mother was released, there was an elderly woman who was scheduled for a surgery on her lumbar spinal column, and because she’s around the same age as my mother, they’d hit it off, and started chatting endlessly.

The elderly next to my mom was only a year junior, because her children are NOT living close by, gladly, there was an old friend of hers who’d lived close to the hospital, and was more than willing to accompany her. Wow, as I saw that the one who’d come in to look after her was an elderly approaching age eighty, I was surprised, and in awe at the same time.

During my mother’s hospital stay, she kept thanking me for being attentive to her, made her feel blessed. But I’d thought, when I’m elderly, would I be like the elderly woman, my mother’s roommate, needing an old friend to look after me? Currently, people are having less and less children, and, it would be quite difficult, to ask one’s own young, to look after oneself using the traditional filial piety measures, so, we may need to, fend for ourselves, in case when we get older, and, we’d fallen in a state of panic, when we needed looking after.

So, this, would be the immediate effects of the aging population, coupled with the reduction in birthrate, and, this will be happening, more and more often, because as the generations before us get older and live longer, the body is bound to have issues, and, by the time our generation gets ready to retire and become elderly, due to the impacts from the reduction of birthrate from before, and how all the social securities get used up already, there would be, little, to NO more resources left.
