Here’s a “note”, to ALL you parents, who don’t want your young to start delayed on the starting lines!!! From the Newspapers, translated…
As parents, did you ever get involved in the “Group Orders of the Parenting Bloggers”, and worried too much about squeezing your own young into the dual-language preschools? In the new book “100 Ways of Being a Parent”, the instructor, researcher mothers, Shih and Jeng, gave their observations on these two types of “Taiwan-only” phenomenon.
yeah, and which one of these do you think the kid will end up using??? None, would be my guess! Not my photo…
Can putting young in an all-English, or dual-language preschool really, increase your children’s competitive edge? The assistant professor of sociology, Shih, from Fujen Catholic University believed, that children live and interact in a primarily Chinese language environment, but the parents overly stressed the advantage of English, and ignored the importance of the mother tongue. This sort of “forced learning of two languages” can have negative effects, and causing the child to have learning difficulties.
She’d done related researches, and found, that children who encountered defeats in the All-English learning environment became even more fearful when they come in contact with foreigners. This “shadows of childhood” will affect the children for the rest of their lives.
“Being able to speak in the mother tongue to the young, is the BEST present that parents can give to their children”, Shih warned, when the child couldn’t understand what grandma or grandpa was talking about, or couldn’t use proper Chinese to express her/his own emotions, thoughts, it would be harder, to form that intimacy in interaction with one’s own families.
makes you think, doesn’t it??? Not my photo…![]()
And, this just shows, how you (I’m NOT one of you!!!) STUPID parents should NOT push your children to learn a foreign language, because the trend is that, it’ll be, widely used, just allow your children to learn on their own paces, and if they are to pick up a foreign language, they will, when the timing is right, and if they’re not, so what? At least, they can, speak in YOUR tongue, and that, is enough, as the sole purpose of language, is to get your points across!
