Every time some major-scale disasters, tragedies, or accidents happened, the public in Taiwan usually donate to the causes to show their supports. ?A lot of the public feel bad about the bad conditions of living that others are in and empathized, and gave the donations to help out the stray animals too.? Using money to show supports for others who were impacted by tragedies is a good thing, but is the world better, because of these acts of compassion?
the problem of over-crowding…photo from online…

The city pound in Chiayi shipped seventy-one dogs and cats to a privately owned large-scale pound, during which time forty-six of the animals died of heat, being cramped up in a small and tight place without enough fresh air. ?This gained public attention back when it? happened.
The Examination Department posted its survey results on February 28th, that this particular private shelter took in a total of 8,458 dogs from 2015 to 2016, and from 2014 to August, 2016, it? taken in 3,407 dogs from government owned animal shelters. ?But based off of the visit records kept by Tainan? Animal Protection Agency, there were about, less than 2,000 dogs and cats left in the shelters! ?So, where did the remaining number of pets go??
Other than the records and statistics, there were, even earlier records of animals, entering into this particular shelter.? Based off of that, there should be over tens of thousands of animals that? ?one missing?? since being brought to this shelter!? Over the years, the members of the public keep on donating to these agencies, but did that actually, improve the lives of the animals?? The above case surely doesn? show that at all!
Had it not been this report by the Examinations Department, we wouldn? have known about all of this. ?What? sad is, most of the mainstream media and press had, ignored these important statistics, the public doesn? have the understanding toward this issue either.? And, even the animals??rights??activists, the report just wasn?, brought to people? attention at all.
Because the public saw the animal rescue groups??hard work, they? shown support by donating money, to show how much they? cared for the animals. ?But, for most, the cares and concerns stopped at the level of making the donations. ?And so, whether or not the rescued animals were, well taken care of after being taken into the privately owned shelters, fell out of the public? focus.
This still just showed, how USELESS if you cared just half way, if you really want to help the animals, adopt them, don? just make that yearly or however long it is you? made your ?cheduled?? donations to the shelters, after all, until you really, GET into the realms of the environment which the animals are living in, you will NEVER know if they?e, really getting enough of the care, and if your dollars are put to good use or not!
