Life, the Obstacle Course

Although He Had, “Survived”…

Despite his difficult beginnings, he’d, survived.  He was, left in a dumpster, outside some bar, and he wouldn’t have been, discovered, on that subzero evening, had the bartend not gone to dump out the trash when he did.

After the newborn was the bartend, he was taken to the hospital, to the E.R.  After the medical staff gave him the “note” of a clean bill of health the hospital notified the local orphanage.

Although he had “survived”, and, there were, NO damages time couldn’t “fix”, his life still, had a huge hole in it, and that invisible hole grew and grew, as he grew older and older.  The staff at the orphanage kept what happened to him a secret, so, he grew up, not having ANY idea of how he’d, almost, died…

Then one day, he accidentally got a glimpse of his own files, as the staff of the orphanage had stepped out of the office, leaving the file cabinets unlocked and opened up.

As he sat and read, he felt shocked, not about what’d happened to him in infancy, but how the workers in the orphanage had, kept all of this from him, all these years!

Although he had, “survived”, but what happened to him had, left an invisible SCORCH MARK on his heart and soul, and, now, he carries that awful beginning with him, allowing it, to infest into his mind, and, as he grew older, he was, no longer, that wide-eyed, curious child, all because of how, he’d, stumbled upon, the truth of himself…
