From looking after the less fortunate, to caring for the elderly, the Volunteer Group of TMSC under the leadership of the CEO’s wife, Shu-Feng Chang, they’d gone to the depth of the island. Chang stated yesterday, that she believed that many of the enterprises shared her compassion, hoped that there could be more who can give the time, to help better the society.

Chang said, as she was up for the position of the leader of the volunteer group of TMSC, her husband reminded her, that the company doesn’t give the employees days off for volunteering, and, as the volunteers headed over to the distant regions, they were only given a three-hundred-dollar fare for the trips. But, heading to Hualien’s distant areas to visit with the elders, the volunteers needed to take the high-speed rails to Taipei from Hsinchu, then change trains toward Hualien, then, rent a car to drive themselves to the places, and sometimes, the volunteers couldn’t even get the return trip train fares too, it’d made her feel bad.

“We’d not taken that much money from TMSC, instead, we’d, opened up the field of which the TMSC gives back to the community”, Chang said, in order to get more people involved in volunteering, the volunteer community set up the “TMSC iVolunteer platform”, through the small donations by the workers, and, everybody can only donate $1,000N.T.s per event, hoping, that people would be willing to, spend a few hours, few days a year, to involve themselves into the actual volunteering, and not just send in the donations.

For seven years, the TSMC pushed forth the social welfare, the members increased from 3,000 when they’d first started to already 7,000 now, the platform which TMSC volunteered for also connected with the care platforms for the elderly, and developed into a connection platform. And now, the medical facilities of Taipei, Hsinchu, Taichung, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Hualien and Taidong are all, connected together.

Chang stated, that each one of the elderly who lived alone craved the attention from people, NOT just the resources, but the constant company of someone who would care for them, and, because of this, last year, the volunteers started implementing the values of filial piety into their volunteering services, hoping, that they will, slowly, help change the value systems for the younger generations.

Chang said, that although the government had set up plans for the long-term care programs, but, caring for the elderly population does NOT entail just putting that into the budgets, there are, so many able enterprises too, she hoped, that these companies can also, get involved into the network set up, because when these elderly live better, the society will too, be better.

So, this woman used an ideal, and put it into action, by setting an example herself, she got involved into setting up the means to volunteer, and, surely enough, others had, followed her lead too, and, they’re caring more about the elderly population than before.
