Games to play as the families gathered together, the thoughtfulness of this man, translated…
My husband is a funny and weird man, everywhere he goes, the places would be, filled with laughter. I’d often thought, if he got into the show business, he probably would be at the same level of the bigshots of the television industries! Because of his witticisms, and his love of being a clown, every New Year’s Eve, other than the meals, my husband’s “grand raffle” can also manage to raise the celebratory atmosphere to an all-time high.
Before New Year’s Eve, my husband and I would rummage through the closets and find an assortment of items that we’d received on various occasions that we’d never used, wrapped them up, and, set them aside at a corner of the living room. Then, we’d, cut off strips of red paper, with the blessings written on the papers, t hen, we’d, folded each paper slip into raffle tickets. And, because my husband already set up the various gifts for the family members, there’s NO assigned gifts to the raffle tickets.
After the New Year’s Eve’s meal, the most-looked-forward-to activity, the raffle was on. In the rules of respect for the elders, grandpa and grandma needed to pick out the slips first, then, everybody wait their turns, based off of the ages. As everybody picked out a ticket, they must state the words of blessings written on the papers aloud, at which time, my husband would take out his emcee quality, managed to make everybody’s laughter shoot through our roofs. In the laughter, the dozen members of the family received the fitting gifts that they’d wanted or needed.
This sort of activities continued year after year, until one day, my kids who were getting older asked me, “How come there are no numbers assigned to the slips and the presents? How would you know what which slips of paper go with which present?” Haha! For the years on end, this unspoken rule of the game, finally got stated aloud!
And now, the kids are all grown, but my husband still wrecked his brains out, to design an assortment of activities for the celebrations for our New Year’s gatherings, so we can all have an unforgettable, New Year’s Eve.
any of these tickets can be the winning ticket!!! Not my photo here.
So, this, is the thoughtfulness of the husband, in coming up with the games that helps make the gatherings come alive, and, it’s because of this man’s thoughtfulness, that’s caused this activity to be the most looked forward to each and every year, it’s a family tradition worth keeping that this man had, started.
