The Lucky One Who Managed to Stray

Blessed, to have a second chance here, translated…

I’d loved the works of Chong-Dan Liang very much, I’d felt, that strong connection with her writings, especially as I read the article, “Breaking Away from the Controls of the Digital Era”, it’s like, it was, dissecting me. I’d once, stayed in front of the screens all day long too, everything work-related, I’d, assigned through the use of high-tech gadgets, I’d never dared, imagine how life would be like, without my high-tech devices.

I’d recalled, that from before the digital age, as we’d drafted up the proposals, we’d handwritten them all, and, we’d needed to, think it over, over, and over again, before putting that pen to paper, with that bottle of whiteout waiting close by. Since computer became popularized, keying in using just one finger, we’re able to compose an entire article in a very short time, copy and paste, they are, our corrections tools, and still, ever since, there were, a lot of the phrases and words that I’d become, estranged to, I’d needed to, search first online for the usages to make sure; from before, the data that I can easily recall with my memory, now, I’d needed, to cross check the data on my computer files before I am able to, tell others about it.

not my poster…

Am I, kidnapped by the high-tech device? Did the computers, make me dumber? Both would be correct. The most impressive time was when there was an outage of power, I couldn’t turn on the computer, couldn’t log online, and, in those a little over two hours’ time, I’d not known what I was to do, became like a ghost, floating, to and fro.

But, my real wakeup call came, until one morning when I woke up, and found the world changed, the world became, blurry, deformed, I was, seeing everything, double………as I’d gone to the doctor, I’d learned, that I’d, overused my eyes, that I was, at risk, of becoming blind. I’d had two surgical procedures, and, although, I can see, better now, but, I will NEVER, have my healthy eyesight again.

In order to protect my vision, I’d started, staying away from the laptops, and started reading slowly the newspapers, the magazines slowly with my eyes, hearing the news on the radios, think about solutions to the problems I’m faced with on a daily basis, and wrote down the things that I’d needed to pay attention to. “Escaping” to get my “health status” back again, it’s luck, and it’s, more than worth it too.

“Get AWAY from there!!!”, “No, I WILL N-O-T!!!”, not my picture…

So, after you were, HOOKED onto the high-tech devices, you couldn’t stop using them, until that wake up call came to you, and, because you wanted to regain your healthy eyesight again, you’d, changed your lifestyle, and, discovered things that you normally wouldn’t have known, had you stay on the track of constantly using your high-tech devices, so, this, is a change that helps you get your life back again.
