The single mother, Hsiu-Bi Shih from Tucheng, after she divorced from an abusive husband, she took care of her sons who had cerebral palsy and A.D.H.D., she’d worked odds and ends to support herself, and, by chance, she’d gotten introduced to the Chinese medicine aromatherapy, and found, that it can not only calm her kids down, and that the herbs can also be made into handmade soaps too.
Shih decided to enter into the program to pull herself out of poverty, and managed to get certified as a lecturer on making handmade soaps, and, sold the soaps she’d made via internet, she was able to save up $4,000N.T.s every single month, and, received the $4,000N.T. given by the social welfare department, after two years of working relentlessly, she’d finally, earned her first $200,000N.T in her life. She excitedly told, that she was finally able to, set up a small workshop, with the professional equipment she’d needed, to step up the online business as well as the workshops too.
So, with the help from the government, and her own hardworking mannerisms, she was finally able to, pull herself and her family out of poverty, and, in the process, she’d found something she can make a living off of, and this, is a great program that the government has, of helping those who are living in the lower ends of the socioeconomic statuses, to pull themselves out.
