There was, the story of “A Bowl of Rice” that’s gone viral online, about a poor kid who’d gone up north to get schooled, because of how little money he had, he couldn’t, keep his stomach full, and, relied on the unknowing assistance from a man who owned a cafeteria; many years ago, the cafeteria closed, and so, the student who’d received the help from the owner went back to help the owner out.
We don’t know if it’s a true story or if it was, made up, but, there are, stories like this one all around me. My friend, Shen, owned and operated a student cafeteria, and, he’d accidentally discovered that there was, a thin girl, who’d from time to time, shown up at the lunch hours, but, each and every time, she’d only ordered some vegetables and a bowl of white rice. He’d taken the advantage, to strike up conversations with her once, and learned, that she only has a $120 N.T. per week of allowances from her family, she came from a poverty stricken home, he’d felt empathetic toward her situation, thought about, how he can help her out, without damaging her pride.
In the end, Shen came up with a way, he’d asked the girl to come later for her lunch, because there would be a reduced number of students who’d eaten in the cafeteria, and he could sell the leftovers to her at a cheaper price; and, if there weren’t enough food that were left over, then, Shen would make a sunny side-up for her to help her get the nutrition she’d needed.
it’s lunch hour…not my photograph…
And still, Shen still worried about how the girl was doing, worried, that she may NOT have enough food for the meals, and so, he’d used the worker’s names for her, to work in the cafeterias, and paid her $200 N.T.s an hour, to help her with what she needed in her schooling, and allowed her to have the meals for free too. Shen looked after the girl until he lost the bid for the cafeteria at school.
When Shen was younger, his father died, and, he’d gone through being chased down by poverty too, and, it’d, made him understand deeply, how it’d felt, to be starving, so, when he became more able, he’d enjoyed, helping those who were, less fortunate than he was. And, because there are, a lot of people like Shen, silently, giving, making a difference, in the corners of the world, that, is what keeps this warmth of a flow in the world today.
So, this, is the story of kindness from a stranger, the man looked out for the girl, because he experienced what it was, to be poor, to be without food and to go hungry, and, he’d wanted to help the young lady with giving her the leftovers, and, I’m sure, that this man’s kindness definitely, made a HUGE difference in this college student’s schooling careers, and, hopefully, she will be able to pass on the cycle of kindness shown to her by this man to someone else in need too.
