Teaching Sixth Graders about Masturbation, Engaging the Students in Discussions about It, the City Council Member Believed it to Be Inappropriate

A city counsel member, Weng held a press conference with a group of parents, they’d pointed out, how a certain elementary school in Hsinbei city, in the sex ed courses, they’d used the “Sex on Campus—the Resource Packet of Sex Ed in the Elementary Years”, the teacher taught the six graders what masturbation was, and separated the class into groups of boys and girls, and have them engaging in discussion over it. The parents believed, that the gender equality education of the school had gone astray, that it’d caused the children to become interested in sex at too young an age, leading to inappropriate behaviors.

Weng pointed out, that the law mandates a total of eight hours of sex ed in the elementary schools, and the schools were to have specialists from outside of the school to come and give lectures. The Department of Education did NOT signify the qualifications, nor did they take control over what can and can’t be discussed, and allowed those who are, not at all qualified, to come into the schools, to teach elementary school students about sex.

For this, recently, over thousands of parents signed a petition and demanded that the inappropriate measures of teaching sex ed be ousted from the schools. The person in charge of the P.T.A., Wu stated, that the education on gender equality should focus on teaching children to respect and tolerate the members of the various genders, but the text and materials used, had caused the parents more anxieties instead, the parents don’t know who, how, or WHAT, is taught in the courses.

The group of parents also demanded that there need to be a-third of the board of gender equality being parents, and the school needed to inform the parents beforehand, when the courses are to start.

And this still shows, just how LACKING the education system is here, because those “instructors” from outside the schools that the schools hired are NOT exactly qualified, therefore, they may give the WRONG ideas about SEX to the children, and thus, children are more than likely, to carry these wayward values and beliefs about sex, and, it’s going to cause a lot of troubles later on in their lives, that, is why the parents felt alarmed!
