The story of how a woman’s not giving up on herself, finally, conquering those curve balls that life threw toward her, Newspapers, translated…
The twenty-seven-year-old Li-Juan Chen because of an illness, she’d become blind in her right eye, and only had a close-to-a-feet’s field of vision in her left eye, she’d only allowed herself to feel sad over this for three months, then, embraced her own handicaps, took up lessons in sewing, guitar, and learned the techniques of massage, to help support herself. She hoped to make enough money, to go to the Mayday Concert, fulfilling her second eldest brother’s dying wish, to take her mother to Hokkaido to see the snow fall.
Nine years ago, Chen’s second eldest brother died of a sudden onset of hepatitis, and three years ago, she’d had retinal detachment because of her severity in nearsightedness and diabetes, after the surgery left her blind in her right eye, she could only see the rough shapes out of her left eye now. Losing her sight in the prime of her life, she’d become severely depressed, but for the sake of her mother, she’d only given herself just three months to get her life back together again.
not my photograph…
Chen attended the courses for the visually impaired sponsored by the Social Welfare Department by Eden Foundation, she’d gone to the not-for-profit organization of the visually impaired in Tainan to learn to massage, to work hard, to make a living on her own. Last year Eden Welfare Foundation had a end-of-year party, she acted as a runway model, took, her hand sewn bag down the runway, and stunned everybody there.
“Losing my sight had, helped me realized that true values of life and the meanings of friendships.” She’d used her spare time to volunteer with Eden Welfare Foundation, used her skills to use the high-tech gadgets, to help the visually impaired elderly to look up the bus routes, to take everybody out to travel, she’d made some good friends too.
So, this, is the struggles of a woman from turning blind, she’d gone through the cycles of experiencing loss of her sight, to getting back up, and becoming someone helpful in the lives of others now, very inspirational, don’t you think???
