There were reports of the public on how the staffs of the hospitals are using the treatment measures to “reform” homosexuals. The Department of Sanitations last week placed the “sexual orientation treatment measures” on ban at the major hospitals and clinics, the new policy will be enforced and implemented at March the soonest; after the amendment of the constitution, the hospitals or doctors who don’t follow this rule will get fined up to half a million dollars, and would have to get the medical license revoked or the hospitals closed down, and, at the most serious instance, the doctor’s certificate would be annulled.
The Taichung Gender Equality Committee stated that last year, there were hospital staff members who’d claimed that they can turn the sexual orientations around, traumatizing those who were homosexuals. The Psychological, Psychiatric Associations, as well as the human rights groups all believed, that this sort of therapy measures shouldn’t be allowed.
“There’s NO way to treat gender orientations”, the manager of the department of medical welfare in the Sanitations Department, Shih stated, that there are, the locally claimed, “changing the sexual orientations” by therapy which can help correct homosexual tendencies, but, there’s NO scientific proofs that gender orientation can be, “treated”; the Department of Sanitations had yet to find out which clinics were using which measures, they’d believed, that these practices were from unlicensed physicians. After the amendment of the constitution, those who wish to, need to go through a psych evaluation, then, they would be, sent to get the sex-reassignment surgeries as the treating physicians saw fitting.
“It’s a great news!”, the manager of the Taiwanese Psychiatric Association, Lai said, homosexuality is NOT a psychological disorder, nor is it a developmental disorder either; that in the past, there were parents who took their only sons to treatment, the biggest problem was in the parents’ unwilling to accept, that their own young couldn’t reproduce an heir, causing the child to become suicidal and showed signs of depression. The sexual orientation therapies will only cause the homosexual individuals and their families more pain, and if the corrective measures were approved by law, then, it’d only added to the discriminations that the world holds of homosexual, and goes against the morality in medical practices too.
The Department of Sanitation Welfare stated, that this ban will be implemented by March at the earliest, and the physicians who don’t follow the laws will get their license to practice medicine revoked. And, those who are practicing these measures without a medical license will be charged based off of the criminal laws.
Finally, the government here, is realizing that sexual orientation is NOT something to be corrected, that we were born the way we are, there’s NO changing that, and, by banning these sorts of therapy, it’s a step toward becoming more civilized as a nation.
