An Elderly Woman Fell onto the Train Tracks, Rammed Over by a Train Coming into the Stations, and Died

Tragic death of this elderly woman who was on her way to meet up with her family on this long holiday weekend, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

An elderly woman, Chen, who’d gone out with her family to San-Diao Ridge, they’d agreed to meet at the train stations, she was suspected of checking where her family members were, accidentally fell onto the tracks, and was, run over by the Dzi-Chiang Trains that just entered into station, and was stuck beneath the wheels, as she was rescued up, she was still conscious, but, her condition worsened in the ambulance on the way to the hospitals, at the emergency resuscitation, she’d suffered intracranial hematoma and internal bleeding, and was declared dead.

The seventy-year-old woman, Chen made a date to meet up with her loved ones at San-Diao Ridge, some members took the trains to get there, others drove, they’d agreed to meet up at the train stations.

Chen set out with several members of the family from Taipei, at eleven in the morn, after they got off the trains, she was suspected of turning her head around to see if her family members had, followed her, she’d accidentally, fell off the train platforms, next to the tracks. The Dzi-Chiang Engines from Taidong to Shulin was entering in, the train operator slammed on the brakes, but, the elderly woman still got caught underneath the tracks, she was stuck, but, she was still able to move her body slightly.

The fire department and the paramedics arrived, and rescued her from the trains’ wheels, there were multiple contusions, her abdomen was swollen and bruised, her left thigh became deformed, she was rushed to the Changgang Hospital in Keelung; as Chen was rescued, she was still conscious, responding to sound, but, in the rush to the hospital, her condition worsened, and, before they arrived, she’d stopped breathing, the paramedics performed CPR on her, and rushed her into the E.R. for emergency resuscitation for half an hour, but because she’d suffered serious internal bleeding, she’d died in the process.

Chen’s husband rushed in behind the ambulance, told the staff, that he wasn’t sure how the accident had happened, “She was still breathing fine on the ride over, how did this happen?”, and stated, “I shouldn’t have left her alone on her own.” Chen’s niece also rushed into the hospital, prayed endlessly, for her to be okay.

And so, this, is an accidental fall onto the train tracks that took a life away, and, it wasn’t anybody’s fault, but, those who bore witness to how this elderly woman got run over by the trains will surely carry the guilt of “what-if” and “had we only…” for a long time to come.
