A Tank Turned, Not Using Enough of an Angle Fell into the Creeks, Causing Four of the Men to Die, the Driver Was Prosecuted

Someone to blame here, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

The Eighth Service Group’s Tank 564 Flipped Over and Fell into the Creeks in Hengchun This August, Causing Four Servicemen Dead, the Pingdong District Attorney’s Office Investigated, and Decided that There Was No Mechanic Malfunction, that it Was the Drive Who’d Not Used a Large Enough Angle at the Turn that’s Caused the Tank to Flip Over, They’d Prosecuted the Driver, Yang on Involuntary Manslaughter Charges Yesterday, and Asked the Courts to Punish Him Based Off of the Laws.

The manager of the eighth service squadron, Yang said, that the army will accept and respect the investigation results, but he’d believed, that the tank operator didn’t make the mistakes intentionally, “No matter what, he’s one of us, our brothers!”. Yang said that after the driver, Yang learned about his indictment, he’d told them that he will shoulder the responsibilities. Yang, the manager of the eighth service squadron said, “anybody who’d been impacted by something as serious as this would experience posttraumatic stress”, especially when those who’d died had interacted with Yang on a daily basis, that it would be normal for him to feel the pressures, and be saddened by the losses of his comrades.

On August 16th, the 564th Army troops was in a training call, when a CM11 tank flipped over and fell into the creek, the five onboard, other than the driver, Yang who’d opened up the door to escape before the tank fell into the creek, the lieutenant, Wu, the Safety officer, Chen, the shooter, Chen, the filler of the ammos, Chang, all died.

As the special investigations team sent by the D.A. went to find out more about the case, Yang claimed that it was due to mechanical malfunction. But after five checks, and seventeen field checks, and after they’d disassembled the entire tank, they’d found nothing that was off mechanically.

The D.A. told, that before the incident, the tank had passed the checks and everything was up to standard, that the procedures of the trainings that day went accordingly too. Other than getting the engines changed, because it’d been submerged in water for eleven hours, they’d not changed any of the wirings, and, after they’d mocked what happened that day, nothing abnormal popped up.

The D.A. said, that on the day of the incident, the tank was supposed to have turned left with a thirty-degree angle onto the bridge, but. Yang slammed on the brakes, while turning the tank left, causing there to be not enough of an angle of the turn, only by nine-degrees, and before he’d noted this, the tank already fell into the creek; Yang didn’t reverse the tank immediately, put the shift into neutral, and chose to turn the tank around on the spot, causing the right front to fall, and couldn’t get back on top of the bridge, and, the fifty-four ton of tank flipped toward the right, and fell into the creek, and because of the top of the tank had obstructed the escape route, the four other servicemen couldn’t make it out.

The D.A. investigated and found, that there were, at least, TWO more opportunities which Yang could salvage the situation, including as he’d gotten on the bridge, and he shouldn’t have turned the tank as he’d hit the railings, had he backed the tank up, maybe, the accident wouldn’t have happened.

Yang was taken to the hospital for emergent resuscitation, after he woke, he’d asked, “Is everybody all right?”, and, as the D.A. called to tell him that he may be charged with his fellow servicemates’ deaths, after they’d told him of the results of the mock run of what happened, he’d started crying, and melted down.

The Pingdong D.A. stated, that Yang and his four service mates were really close, that as he was rescued, he’d asked about how they all were, but later on, he’d not admitted to what he’d done, nor did he reach a settlement with the family of those who died, and, they’re going to prosecute him based off of manslaughter charges, and ask for a fitting sentence.

The eighth service squadron said, that Yang had returned to his original post on the unit, he’d performed as he would regularly, showed NO abnormalities, that the army would continue to have officers to help with the final affairs, and help with Yang’s post-traumatic stress conditions.

So, this, is an accident, and because this man had accidentally killed four of his service mates, he would be emotionally distraught over what he’d done, to have caused their untimely deaths, but, this is a fatal error, caused by a man, and, he will still be, punished, even IF he’d not meant for it to happen.
