Losing their parents, a family tragedy, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
The collapse of the newly built Daxi High School library collapsed, causing five workers to die, and, the workers, Liao and Huang were a married couple who’d followed work where it took them, for the sake of their young children, the kids were left behind in their home in Pingdong, and, the family is completely taken over with the losses.
Liao (age 42), and his wife, Huang (age 47), has two son in the second and third year of middle school in Pingdong, and, because there are, little to NO jobs available where they lived, close to the mountains, in order to give their children better education, the couple worked away from home all year long, worked where work was, available, and there’s no stable work at the construction sites, then, they’d find odds and ends jobs to tie them over.

Liao’s older brother worked at a construction site in Taoyuan, as the news of the collapse came to him, he’d begged the personnel, to save their lives first, he was worked up, kept wanting, to pass through the perimeters of the accidental collapse.
He’d stated, that his family all worked in construction, his younger brother and sister-in-law started working in Taoyuan twenty years ago, and recently, they’d worked in the sites in Taipei, but because there’s this lack of skilled worker on the constructions in Daxi, they were, transferred here to work, but, on their first day of work, they died in a collapse.
Based off of understanding, the sons of the couple were all baseball players, their parents couldn’t look after them while they worked, and they’d started, living with the teams, and after the accidents, nobody in the families dared tell the children about it, “They’d, lost their parents, just like that, how can they possibly handle it?”, in the end, it was, the coach of the baseball team that gave them the news of their parents’ deaths.
The coach told, that they were supposed to practice into the evening yesterday, but, after he was told of the news of the collapse, he’d immediately called all the players in, and took the brothers to the side, to tell them the bad news of their parents’ deaths, the children were very shocked, couldn’t believe it, because the younger son had, just talked with his mother two evenings ago.
The coach told, that the Liao’s were living a little above the poverty lines, that, was why the parents went up north to find work, but, the brothers loved baseball, and are excellent players, and now, they’d lost the support of their family, he’d hoped, that the world, can provide them with the resources they’d needed, to keep playing balls.

The other death, the sixty-seven-year-old, Huang’s eldest son and daughter-in-law, as they’d rushed to the hospital, they’d told, that their father and younger brother are both model making construction workers, because the father was elderly, he’d rarely taken any call for the job, that today, it was the younger brother who was called to work at Daxi, but something came up, that, was why their father went instead.
And so, a total of FIVE families were, shattered by this, unsafe working environment, or accident, and, this just shows, how much the parents are giving, to make sure that their young get the proper education, and the ones left behind are now, left with the hard tasks, of carrying on, without their loved ones…
