On the personal experiences one encounters in the process of education, the kindness shown, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
acts of kindness from one child to another, photo from online…
Recently, there were, two news stories about the goings on of school involving two special needs children, one was about how a student with cerebral palsy was accepted and helped by the rest of his classmates, his classmates worked together, to make his dreams of getting involved in a relay race, to help him live his dreams, it’d warmed me up inside; the other was with a student who couldn’t stop coughing, and the other classmates told the classroom instructor that they’d wanted to go to another class, which made me very upset and worried.
I also have allergies, during my schooling career, I’d once started coughing nonstop too, and every time I’d started, I was just like the student, covering up my mouth and nose, with my other hand against my chest, and still couldn’t stop myself from coughing nonstop. Back then, my classmates were very kind, as the class sessions were over, they’d all circled around me, patted my shoulder, and, handed me cups of warm water, and even gone to the school store, picked up cough drops for me, helped me through this, hard period of sickness.
After I’d personally experienced that period of my own life, I can especially, empathize with children who’d fallen ill, and I’d chosen to deal with the kids with Tourette’s who would scream out of control, along with children who were emotionally distraught to the point that they’d threatened suicide, I’d treated them all as gifts from god, to train us, and had the whole school involved in helping them out. It’d taken me six years, although I’d delayed some of the classes that were going on around my class, and caused the school troubles, and interrupted everybody’s learning processes, but, it’d, sparked up that sense of empathy for the teachers and students too, they’d learned to treat people like normal, and, isn’t achieving this the biggest, the most majestic kind of work what being an educator is all about?
not my photograph…
Empathizing, the student, Chen, with cerebral palsy, and multiple disabilities, in the hooraying of the entire school, forgot about the handicaps of his own body, became steadier and steadier in running, as he’d run through the finishing line as the last leg of the relay, he’d held up his hand in victory of life, with that look of satisfaction on his face, and, the classmates who’d run alongside him all rushed up, they’d left, their places all the way behind them al now, such a moving scene; “and that was, a truly, beautiful moment!”
Fröbel, the educator said, “There’s NO special way to educate, only through love and by example.” this line kept, resonating in my ears. Schools are a place for the children to form their characters, toward the children with handicaps, can we dodge, or refuse to have them in the classes? And yet, the tolerance and acceptances of the students of Dawn Middle School had, become, a great example of what education is all about.
So, this, is the kindness that the other students showed toward their handicapped classmate, and, it’s probably because the instructor carried a positive attitude about helping the students in the class to accept someone who’s different, and offered the assistance that this particular student was needing, that’s made the whole class getting involved, in helping their handicapped classmate out, giving him social, emotional support, to cheer him on, and, there’s no better example of hope than this one.
