A woman, Chang, because of her work condition, was overcome with pain in her neck and shoulders, at the start of the year, she’d gone to find Chou, to have the traditional Chinese treatment measured performed on her, using heated needles, and heated glass tops, along with other folk remedies, because she’d felt sick, she was rushed to the hospitals, but still died, the family sued Chou for negligence.
After the Hsinbei District Attorney’s Office conducted an autopsy on Chang, they’d confirmed that her death was caused by emphysema, which caused pneumothorax, causing her lungs to collapse, she couldn’t get enough air in, and then, suffocated to death, that it had nothing to do with the traditional Chinese treatment measures of heated needles and heated glass tops, but, Chou didn’t have license to practice medicine, so yesterday, she’s still prosecuted for breaking the laws of medicinal practices.
The indictment stated, that Chang (age 42) married over from Taiwan, and years ago, became a citizen, after Chang divorced, she’d rented a place in Wanhua, Taipei, and owned a massage place, took care of her second year middle schooler with her ex-husband on her own.
Working as a masseur long term, Chang was overcome with shoulder and neck pains, at the start of February, she’d gone to seek out help from Chou (age 74) who lived in Sanchong through a friend’s introductions, and Chou had used the traditional Chinese treatment procedures such as needles and heated glass tops, afterwards, Chang started feeling sick, Chou called an ambulance, but, Chang still died after being taken to the hospital.

“I hadn’t been feeling well for a long time”, Chou told the police, that as Chang came to get treated by her, she’d stressed that she wasn’t feeling well at all, after the treatment procedures were over, Chang left for a little over ten minutes, then came back said, that she wasn’t feeling well, and asked her to call up an ambulance; Chou said, before she’d treated Chang, Chang had complained of how she’d felt ill, and denied that it was her treatment measures that’s caused Chang to die, that Chang had an ailing health to begin with.
The autopsy conducted by the coroners found, that there were, NO external injuries on Chang, that there were NO visible punctures on her thoracic from the needles, and believed, that the air filled up in Chang’s own lungs, causing her to have pneumothorax, causing her lungs to collapse, and respiratory failure, that it had nothing to do with Chou’s needle and heated jar therapies she’d administered, but Chou wasn’t certified as a traditional Chinese doctor, the D.A. terminated their investigation and indicted Chou based off of how she broke the laws of physicians.
Because this woman died, and, someone needs to blame, and, although the woman’s death has NOTHING to do with the treatment procedures that the seventy-year-old woman administered on her, but, if she was let off easy, the family of the deceased woman would be really upset, and so, the D.A. charged Chou with practicing without a license, and this is just, a death that concurred with a medical treatment that the woman had, received.
