Changing her methods, to help make the meals fresher for her own son, translated…
As my son was in the elementary years, I’d given the “lunch duties” to the nutritious meals provided by the schools, but as my son entered into middle school, the school encouraged the students to bring their own packed lunches, that, was when I’d started making his lunches for him in the mornings.

I’d hated the oils, and I’d mostly just steamed up and broiled the food items. Slowly, my son started having a ton of opinions to the way I’m preparing the foods, he’d told me a lot, “Mom, you should check out the recipe books more!”, but I’d always just, shrugged it off. Until one time, as he was complaining of the packed lunches he’d started crying, I’d inquired more, turns out, that at lunch, his classmates would trade the items with each other. “But nobody wanted the foods I have, because none of it looked appetizing!”
The words reminded me, that for the middle school students, with the heavy loads of their school academics, maybe, lunch time is the only time they have to relax, the only time he has, of interacting with his friends, and, I clearly had, ignored my son’s hopes and expectations here.
The very next day, I’d bought him a double-decker lunch box that he’d always dreamed of having, and, changed my cooking styles of preparing the foods hot. A week later, I’d asked him, how he’d liked the meals for the past week, he’d smiled and told me, “My classmates all wondered that if I’d picked up the wrong packed lunch now? And they’d all commented, ‘your mom’s cooking skills improved, and the hardware changed also (meaning the new lunch box)!, I’d started laughing with my son.
Tomorrow morn, I suppose, that I should, put a few extra pieces of calamari inside my son’s packed lunch! For the sake, of socializing.
the kind that needed to be heated up from the morning, and taken out to eat at the lunch hours, not my photograph still…
So, you can see how much a parent cared about the young, by looking into the child’s lunches, but, a lot of the mothers are working women, and it’s just, easier, for them, to give money to their children, to buy their lunches from school these days, nobody EVER takes the time, and cook the fresher foods for these packed lunches to take to school anymore.
