Despite her conditions, she’d still, worked hard, and became, outstanding at her job, a story of inspiration, from the Newspapers, translated…

“Although I may have difficulties moving about, but, I can manage it, so long as I keep on practicing the skills, I’m certain, that I will be better at it”, the forty-one-year-old Bi-Lien Chen, because of her Poikilodermatomyositis, causing the joints on her entire body to become deformed, she’d thought about suicide from before, but, with her grandmother’s encouragements, she’d, finally walked out of the darkness, yesterday, she was awarded the trophy for outstanding handicapped employee.

the woman, Chen, with her published book, photo from online…

Chen works as a phone operator at the city council office, her condition developed back when she was in the fourth grade, with her condition worsening, she’d once stopped eating altogether, attempted to kill herself, but her grandmother never gave up on her, kept encouraging her, made her realize, that she needed to pull herself together, “if the heaven’s won’t take me, then, I shall, make the best of my life.”

In order to help ease her grandmother’s mind, Chen worked as a phone operator at the city council office, along with selling the lotto tickets, she’d gone from getting paid hourly, to earn a monthly wage, she’s very thorough with her work, and, before she’d called her clients up on the phones, she’d made sure she was prepared, and, with the English vocabulary words, she’d used phonetic spelling and Chinese alphabets to help her pronounce the terms. When she has the free times, she’d gone to take classes at community college, she’d learned the harmonica, ukulele, taken up English, and Japanese, and other courses too.

Another fifty-two-year-old outstanding handicapped worker, Rong-Li Lin, because he’d inherited the Usher syndrome, causing him to become hearing and visually impaired, starting back in his middle school years, his conditions worsened, but he’d never felt beaten by it one bit, instead, he’d only felt, that he “just” couldn’t see and hear clearly, with the hearing aid, and expansion machines, he could still have a full life. He said, there are, too many people he wanted to thank, so long as he is able to live his life to the fullest, it would be, the BEST way to repay those who had helped him out in life.

Lin had owned and operated a photo studio, gone to San Francisco on his own to learn, worked as a substitute for an art course, and now, he works as a trainer for the Donghu Middle School. Being confident and independent, nobody could tell, that he is, visually and hearing impaired.

So, these are two amazing tales of how people can overcome the difficulties in their own lives, their families didn’t give up on them, and more importantly, they’d NOT given up on themselves, because of their illnesses, instead, they’d worked, even harder, to get PAST the obstacles that life had thrown at them, and that, is something we can all learn from!
