A First-Time Father Suffocated His Own Infant Daughter to Death, Trying to Stop Her Cries

A first-time father, in order to make his six-months old infant daughter cry less loudly, folded a blanket with breathing holes again and again, then placed the blanket over his own infant daughter’s mouth and nose, causing the infant to die of asphyxia, the District Attorney’s Office of Taichung charged him with involuntary manslaughter charges yesterday.

The indictment papers pointed out, that the thirty-eight year-old man, Liu on the early morning hours of May 3^rd, because his six-months old premature daughter started crying, and he’d not wanted her to disturb anybody else, he’d placed the blanket with holes used to keep the legs warm, he’d folded the blanket over and over again, placed it over the infant’s mouth and nose.

As Liu’s wife woke next morning, she’d found that her daughter’s pacifier had fallen off, that the holes were blocking her nose and mouth, and, because the child’s airway was blocked, she’d still died, after the family rushed her into the E.R. The family pointed out, that Liu was extremely impatient toward his own young daughter, and would tell them not to pick her up as she started crying aloud, to let her just cry in her crib, wanted the D.A. to clarify the infant’s cause of death.

Liu stated, that he loved his daughter dearly, that all the money he’d made, he’d spent it on his wife and daughter; that his wife was just finished with her final rounds of cancer treatment, he’d helped look after his own young daughter every now and then. Back then, the daughter was sucking on her pacifier, and there were, holes on the blanket, that his daughter was able to breathe; he’d placed the blanket with holes over her mouth and nose, because he’d wanted her cries to not sound so loud.

The infant’s mother told, that her husband had never physically abused the infant girl, but she’d felt, that he wasn’t at all that close to her, that as her husband took care of her child, he’d wrapped the diapers too tightly, he’d told her, that this would give the infant more security, but, the tightness had made her daughter uncomfortable and caused her to cry.

The Taichung D.A.’s offices believed, that he’d not had the intentions of murdering his own young daughter, but didn’t consider that if the blanket with the hole was folded up, it’d lost the property for the air to flow through it, his daughter was a premature baby, and didn’t have enough mobility as other infants, that he was at fault, for his carelessness, charged him with involuntary manslaughter yesterday.

Another tragedy that struck a family, and this time, it was due to the father’s inexperience and annoyances at his own young infant daughter’s cries, and, the man IS to blame, for being so careless, placing that blanket over his own infant daughter’s head!
