How music can open up someone’s life, how music helped turned people’s lives around, from the Newspapers, translated…

The Child, Yen-Ting Chen with a rare condition entered into the choir, and, after being in music therapy for many years, he can finally speak, in complete sentences, and started as a drummer for his band too.

“I love music, music loves me, for my whole life, I will never let it go………”, Yen-Ting Chen, who loved music, was diagnosed with the rare Williams’s Syndrome, and because he suffered anoxia, he’d developed slower, in mentality and language expressions, at age six, he was, only learning to speak, until he’d gotten involved in the Rare Conditions Angel Sounds Choir, the rehabilitation through music helped him start talking, and, he’d sung out that strength, that was never defeated, by his own conditions.

a photo of the young boy, from the papers…

The wooden box drummer and singer, Yen-Ting, was the clown of his family, his mother recalled how he was at birth, slanted neck, would wake up crying in the nights, his condition had, affected his senses, his behavioral developments, and his mobility, he also had vascular problems as well, he was, very sensitive to sounds, at age six, he can just, say the single characters of “Yes” and “Okay”.

As a music instructor, his mother encouraged him to get involved with his school choir, used music to help him rehabilitate. After school, she’d accompanied him as he sang, played the piano, and other musical instruments. And a simple tune, “Mary Had a Little Lamb”, it’d taken Yen-Ting three years to learn it, with the ukulele, drums, and piano accompaniments. Until one day, Yen-Ting told her out of the blue, “I’m hungry!”, it’d, surprised her and made her happy.

For the six years’ time, Yen-Ting went from using single word to using complete sentences to express his basic needs; with his perfect tones, after a few times hearing a song, he can, play it, and now, he can already, play and sing, over hundreds of pieces of music.

Music makes people optimistic, the fifty-eight year old Wang was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease, last March, because he’d lost his coordination, his memories deteriorated, he’d slurred his speeches, he was, forced into retirement, he’d lost focus in his life, and became ill, he felt, that he was, no longer needed by the society anymore, he’d become, depressed. Until his wife, Jing-Feng got involved with the choir, and, a child who was ill asked him, “Uncle, why do you keep on swaying your body?”, Wei-Hsien stopped fearing, and explained to the young child, and, listened to the child tell him of his own conditions, and now, he’s, an older brother that the choir can’t do without.

So, these, are two cases of how music can help rehabilitate someone who’d fallen ill, and, that’s just the benefits of getting involved with music, because music became a way, that these two individuals can connect with the world outside, it’d opened their lives up, to brand new experiences in their lives.
