An Elderly Woman, Yeh, Sold the Recycling Materials She’d Picked Up Off the Streets and Donated Her Earnings, the Police Officers Helped Her by Pushing Her Cart Along

From the Front Page Sections, translated…

The eighty-eight year-old elderly woman, Yeh from Hsinbei City, many years ago since her retirement from the cigarette factory in Songshan, she’d donated the two million dollars she’d received as her retirement pension, and lived off of collecting the recycling materials and selling them, and donated all the money she’d earned from her recycling to charitable foundations too; eight years ago, an officer, Wang had helped her pushed her collecting cart, they’d become friend ever since, and recently, another officer, Chen had, helped her push her cart along too, it’d sparked new interest in this story of the “Shu-Ju Chen of Hsinbei City”.

Eight years ago, the patrol officer who worked for the traffic teams in Zhonghe District, Jun-Ji Wang, saw the elderly woman, Yeh, with her hair all white, hunched back, slowly, moved her collector cart across the streets, he’d gone up to help her get the cart to the other side of the streets, and ever since, whenever Wang saw the elderly woman, Yeh, pushing her cart, he’d always, gone up, to help her out.

In order to thank him, the elderly woman, Yeh, would place the foods, soups, fruits she’d bought onto the handles of Officer Wang’s motorcycle, and, he’d not known, where the foods came from, and, his coworkers made fun of him, “You must have a secret admirer!” later on, he’d learned, that it was, from the elderly woman.

Five years ago, Wang wrote the story and submitted it to the Police Light Magazine, and, Yeh’s kindness was realized.

Officer Wang didn’t know how to repay Grandma Yeh’s kindness, he’d feared, that being elderly, she might get hit by traffic as she crossed the streets, few years ago, he’d given her a reflective vest, and placed reflective stickers onto her cart too.

There were, a lot of the local residents, shop fronts who knew of the kind deeds of Grandma Yeh, and as they’d mentioned her, they’d stated, “Grandma is so full of compassion, the money she made from recycling all got donated to Tzu-Chih.”, and some even called Grandma Yeh, “the Shu-Ju Chen of Hsinbei City”.

Awhile ago, as the elderly woman, Yeh finished collecting her recycling materials, was crossing the streets, the officer from An-Ping Substation, Chen directed traffic at the intersection, he’d helped her push her cart across.

Based off of understanding, Grandma Yeh was from a well-to-do family, and, while her family was against her recycling the materials, but, for many years, she’d, persisted and insisted on getting out early in the morn, to pick up the recycling materials just the same.

So, this, is how the kindness cycle worked, because this elderly woman’s act of kindness touched this police officer, he’d helped her out, and, this story will, touch many others’ lives, and, put back the lost kindness, lost faith we have of this world back, by a little bit, but, a little bit still, goes a long way in this case…
