Bo-Xun Chen Remembered How Back in Middle School He’d Run Away from Home and Became Truant, as He Was Learning to Make an Egg Yolk Pastry, He Was Encouraged by Grandma Chang, “You’d Found Something You Can Do in the Future Now!”, He’s in His Last Year of High School Right Now, and Already Earned Two Professional Certifications
Chen, who became rebellious back in middle school, received praise from the eighty-eight year-old elderly, Chang’s praise in a baking class, he was encouraged, and thus, bid farewell to his wasted days of the past, found his path, and now, in the last year of high school, he already earned TWO Level C certificates.
Chen is a student that received a ton of attention from the “Light Up Plan” set out to counsel students from at-risk environment in Kaohsiung, the leader of the counseling troupe, Chen said, that this adolescent male had gotten involved with gang-related activities and stayed at the net cafés all night long, but, after a chance meeting with the elderly woman, Shih-Lang Chang who was at the center to teach how to make egg yolk pastries, because of her words, he was able to, start a new path in his own life.
Chen, in his last year of high school, dyed his hair blonde, is very cool in appearances. He’d recalled his past, said, that back in middle school, he’d skipped out from home and skipped school a lot, gotten into fights, on the second year of middle school, the school put him up as a candidate for the “Light Up Program”, he’d thought, he had nothing to do after school, and might as well just go and see what’s happening, and, in the end, he’d found a place, where he can feel comfortable being himself, a place that he felt “at home” in.
Three years ago, he was learning to make egg yolk pastries, and met up with Grandma Chang, the elderly woman gave praises on how pretty his dough looked, it’d boosted his confidence, and decided to work toward baking, at the first semester of his high school year, he’d received two certificates for food preparation, one for baking, one for meats.
Chen said, the “Light Up Program” used the extracurricular classes, to inspire the students who were at risk, to find a direction to their own lives, that year, after Grandma Chang praised Bo-Xun, right after class, he’d come to her excitedly, told, “I’d found my way for the future”, it’d made the elderly feel amazed, at how her words had such a strong impact on someone’s life.
Talking about this serendipitous interaction of people who are seventy years apart, Chang smiled and told, “I was only offering encouragements to the younger generation”. She who had four daughters told, that the most important thing that parents can do, is set a good example, that love must be used, in the right places, the way to teach children right from wrong is by showing the child reasons, instead of using physical punishments.
Chang, who is excellent in making the Pekingese noodles and buns, taught the cooking class, and gave a ton of encouragements to children in the “Light Up Programs”, Chen told her with gratitude, “All it took was those words of encouragement, it’d helped us, turn a child’s life around.”
