The ONLY choice this ABUSED woman felt that she had!!! From the Front Page Sections, translated…
Her husband had gotten drunk and beaten her up daily, the older brother and sister-in-law of the deceased begged for mercy on her behalf, the judge asked why she’d not divorced or call the cops, “It wouldn’t work, he’d stood guard outside the house and hurt my family”.
“If I’m beaten to death, my two kids would be without a mom, I don’t’ want them to live under the shadows of violence………”, the woman who was accused of murdering her own husband cried, as she’d told the judge why she’d done what she had, and, the Changhwa District Court found, that she’s a fitting mother and a good wife, that the reason she’d murdered her husband was because she’d endured through years of domestic violence, that the court took pity on her predicament, yesterday, she was sentenced to two and a half years for murder.
The verdict pointed out, that the man, Jiang was jailed because of robbery, at the end of 2010 he married Hsu. After they wed, Jiang often beaten his wife up after he got drunk, and Jiang’s own older brother tried to talk some sense into him, and got beaten too; Hsu works in simple crafts and made dumplings to sell, to raise up her two young children.
On the evening of January 16th, Jiang returned home drunk at around one in the morn, picked up a wooden bat, and the mop to beat Hsu, and afterwards, he’d told her he was hungry, and told her to make instant noodles for him; that very night, Hsu had multiple injuries, and decided to put some sleeping pills into her husband’s noodle, waited until he passed out, she’d suffocated him with the quilt.
And Hsu say by her husband’s body and cried all night, and called up the local police precinct to turn herself in; the D.A. charged her based off of murder. The judge asked her, “Do you NOT know that murdering your own husband is a major crime?”, she’d replied, “yes”; then the judge asked, “Why didn’t you call the police, or go to your mother’s house to live, or file for divorce? You will get jailed for murdering your husband, what would happen to your children?”, she’d replied, “Calling the cops wouldn’t do any good, moving back to my mothers, or getting a divorce, he’ll come and find me, or hurt people from my family. If I get beaten to death, my children will have NO mother……………
The Changwha District Court then called the older brother and sister-in-law of the deceased to the stand, the neighbors, as well as her kids’ kindergarten teachers, Jiang’s older brother and sister-in-law pointed out, that he was NO fitting husband, would get drunk every single day, and would hurt Hsu physically, they spoke on her behalf, begged that the judge can give her a lighter sentence, so she can be at home soon, to take care of her young children. The Collectivist Court believed that Hsu was a kind-hearted woman, that she’d endured through domestic violence long-term, two years ago, was listed as a high-risk family by Changwha’s local government, that the circumstances should be considered, and, that she deserves a reduced sentence.
Imagine how long this woman must’ve weathered through the abuse by her husband, and how many years she must’ve lived in fear, and, she did the ONLY thing left for her to do, murder, because she was, fed up, she refused to subject her own young children to this sort of BAD family situation, and, she had her husband’s older brother and sister-in-law to speak up for her, which was why the judge passed a more lenient sentence to her, and this still just shows, how in most cases of abuse, it usually, ends in, MURDER!!!
