With an Open Heart, You Won’t Feel Stifling

Translated…

Sam told me something huge, said, that the former department manager, Kuo, is now, her subordinate, and my reaction was, that every dog has its day.

Six years ago, Sam, who was a single parent was, forced into retirement, and, it was, Kuo who’d, handed down the orders of her early retirement. “the economy is headed downward, and the boss ordered to lay people off, asked me for a list of individuals to lay off, someone HAS to get off the boat, otherwise, the boat will sink, causing everybody to drown!”, Kuo spread his arms, with that gesture that there was, nothing he could do about it. “Why should it be me then? I’m not the most senior worker, nor was I paid the highest wages, I’d had good enough sales records, so, why me?” Sam was very upset.

Kuo had, pulled in a bunch of people, close friends, relatives to work in our company, so naturally, he’d not dared, fire ANYBODY he knew on a personal level, so, naturally, he went after Sam who didn’t have anyone, to back her up. Back then, Sam’s two daughters were still in school, she’d begged Kuo to give her two more years’ time, until her eldest daughter graduates from university, but, Kuo wouldn’t budge one bit.

Lost her job in midlife, Sam hit walls after walls, trying to find that new job, she’d part-timed at a bakery, but was too slow, and fired; worked in the fast-food restaurants, competing for jobs of the younger generations; even as a dishwasher, she’d, worked, she’d worked hard, to put food on the tables, and, she’d blamed Kuo, for what happened to her since, and said, that if she ever bumped into him again, he’s going to have hell to pay.

from the papers…

Sam kept changing jobs, until she’d started working as an insurance agent, she’d become, settled down, she’d found a steady clientele from all her girlfriends, and her former contacts, she’d done real well, and, soon enough, she’d become, the department manager in sales; it’s just, that she was still, upset over what happened in the past, and, it’d, caused her chest to feel stuffy, but, she’d gone to the hospitals, and the doctors couldn’t find anything wrong with her physically. Once we’d gone to a seminar, the lecturer wrote a huge character for “stifling” on the board, then, crossed out the character of heart inside, leaving the character for “door” with nothing in it, said, “Once you’d, opened up your heart, then, you won’t feel, so stifling anymore, Chinese characters are, very interesting, aren’t they?” After Sam had heard, she’d told me, heartfelt, “could this be, the way to resolve my stuffy feeling inside?”

Actually, time is the best healer of trauma. As Sam slowly, forgot about Kuo, he’d, appeared before her. He’d told her, that the company they were both working in, didn’t get managed well enough, and, the wind of laying people off started, causing everyone to panic, he became, the public enemy, and, stuck it out for a couple more years, and, the former company still went, bankrupt. The boss was on the run, and, a lot of their coworkers couldn’t get their severances, he still had the economic pressures at home, so, he’d, gotten back into the workforce again, but, couldn’t climb up on that ladder, and, after so many twists and turns, he’d come, to find a job, in Sam’s current company.

“Whoa, face-to-face with your former enemy, did you, give it to him?”, I’d, asked her intentionally. Sam roller her eyes at me, said, that she’d no longer, carried any hatred toward Kuo, instead, she was, more than grateful toward how cruel he was when he’d, fired her, to help her get a lump sum retirement fund, and, left that former company which was, about, to CRASH, although, it wasn’t easy one bit, she’d now, found her new life, in her new career.

A lot of things, in the moment, you’d feel, pained by, but, biting down hard, it will, get you through. Some people, is not worthy of you, getting hung on for too long, just, ask the person, to leave your heart. A heart is, seemingly fragile, but, after getting scarred, it’d become, stronger, than before.

Sam said, that the lecture was right on, opening up the heart, you won’t feel so stuffy inside, and, the good luck is what follows, after you’d, set your heart free.

So, this, is a woman’s life experiences, she’d endured through the lows, getting STABBED in the back by her former manager, but, she’d kept working on herself, developed more skills, and became, successful in her new job, and this still just shows, that life doesn’t give you, what you can’t handle, that everything has a way, of working itself out!
