Life, the Obstacle Course

Even the Dogs Knew

Translated…

Last week, I took my three-year-old son to the park, a pair of five, six year-old siblings started rushing toward my dog and started making a lot of noises, and, perhaps, their parents thought it to be funny too, and started, screaming aloud around us hysterically, perhaps, commented on how huge the sizes of our dogs were, how scary they looked, we were, stunned, and, allowed this family that screamed at us, walked off.

If our dogs were more sensitive, and, all of a sudden, broken free from the tight leash we held tightly onto, and, leapt on them, and bit them, or, turned around, ran towards the streets, I wouldn’t be one bit surprised! If today, they weren’t, making fun of a dog, but instead, a child who’s different? They carried this DISRESPECT toward life, and, in this human family, there’s, no sign of respect whatsoever toward another living organism, they don’t know, that the dogs knew the way they felt about them.

tagged, and waiting to get “claimed”…not my photo…

And, I’d recalled, that German Shepherd that was, DRAGGED into the shelters by its owner, that fought so hard, to not get put into that cage in the shelter. And, while the volunteers stood off to the side, sighed, helplessly, the owner started fending for himself, that it wasn’t his dog, that the dog came to his home, and he’d only, fed him a couple of meals, and, it’d, stayed, that it wasn’t, their household pet, why would it, fight so hard, to get placed inside that cage in the shelter? This was, an overly used excuse, not just for the volunteers, but for the abandoned dogs also, dogs not just only ate, or stay squatting, by the front gates, they knew, that they were, about to, get abandoned by their humans, and perhaps, the dogs only hated themselves, for NOT selecting the right owners, that there’s, nowhere, they can escape to now.

The dogs all knew. But, the adult male with white coat, did it really know, that it would, live inside a steel cage in the shelters, for FOUR whole years? From the moment he’d lost his freedom back in 2012, he’d been waiting, does he know, how many four years he has left, to wait on? Recalling that small park where it’d walked stray, the days he spent, getting rained on, and the sun on its coat? The moment that it was, just about, to get completely forgotten by the world, the volunteers, took a few pictures for the adoptions website, and, his story was, shared over hundreds of times, even thousands, and, finally, someone came, took it away.

just thrown away, like a piece of TRASH, and yet, it’s, a breathing, living BEING!!!  Not my photograph still…

He was taken in, to a private dog shelter in Tainan, from a lonely dog, he now, lived in the collective loneliness of the entire pack of dogs; without the space of solitary living, with the increased competitiveness for survival’s sake, lived on, with, even MORE hardships. And this time, the chance for him to leave, may not even come, in four more years, I truly hope, that the dog doesn’t know this.

Before I wrote this article, I’d passed along a photo of an Old English Sheepdog that someone from the neighborhood picked up, and forwarded it to a married couple, they too, had dogs like this one, and knew, how hard it was, to care for the Old English Sheepdogs, and this larger breed that should be about eighty-eight pounds, in the photo, became so famished, looking like just skins and bones, with that beautiful blue eye, that still shone of its will to survive.

After five minutes of thinking it through, my friends phoned up the shelter, after discussing with each other, they’d, decided, to go to the shelters, to adopt the dog, it’s as if, they were able to see, that sense of sorrow from a child being abandoned by its caretaker, left on the streets. I’d recalled how they have a one-and-a-half-year-old child at home too, at the age of being a bit, difficult to handle, but, they’d never used their child as an excuse, to not help out an animal, instead, it’d, made them open their arms more, and loved these creatures who are totally different, who don’t speak the same languages as humans do.

Because, the pet owners all understand, that dogs know it best, when it comes to giving, and loving someone.

So, this, is still, VERY GRIM, it just, doesn’t look good at all, dogs are still, getting abandoned because we tend to believe, that they’re, lower orders of living organisms, that they are NOT as intelligent, or able to feel as we would, but, they do, feel everything, especially after a dog’s been abandoned, it’s going to take, even LONGER, for the trust that it’d lost in its human caretakers before, to get established, and yet, people keeps on buying up those cute puppies, not knowing, that one day, they will no longer BE small, that some even grow up to over a hundred pounds!!!
