The opinion of a university professor here, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
Chinghwa University is about to put forth its dual-doctoral program next year, while the rest of the universities don’t agree with the beliefs. N.T.U. believes, that a dual-doctorate is like the inflation of doctoral programs, that doctorate seekers are seeking out knowledge, not another degree awarded; and Transportation University pointed out, that it would be quite difficult, for someone, to master two separate fields of study, that to have more students who register at the schools, the schools would need to turn its way of operation around, and provide the elitist courses that the students are interested in.

That’s right, the doctoral dissertations are seeking out innovative ideas, and yet, in Taiwan, there is, rarely any who are involved, in the innovations of knowledge, most are just, warming what’s already becoming cold, meaning, that they’re, chasing after what’s considered “hot topics” in the international realm, and how to, cultivate people with enough knowledge, to win the Nobel Prize. Most are merely, scamming the higher education department’s money, for instance, a couple of years ago, a certain head of Department of Education was tattled by the students to have posted articles onto the famous international periodicals, and, they’d found out, that all the dissertations submitted were, already done before, and the judges are, all related to the Department of Education too. There are also, public university professors who, used the money given to them by the National Research Foundation, to fund one’s own private needs.
Actually, degree is not synonymous with capability, the determinant of success is, attitude. If the meaning of being successful is giving back to the community, then, you don’t need any professional level of knowledge, to have a reputation and keep on, giving back to the world; instead, it’s like it’d stated in the book “Rich Dad”, you need to set up a system, and have that system, help you make more money, and only with a good attitude for work, can you gain the trust of others, and, set up this, system of connection that you will need. But what’s sad is, the colleges and universities we have here are all academic-oriented, derailed from the society, causing a ton of the graduates having it hard, finding a job, even if it’s for, minimum wage!

And so, this is alarming, because by the time you graduated from a four-year program, you SHOULD have the basic knowledge of your major, but, this isn’t so here, and, the theses and dissertations are, merely a way, of proving that one had earned that doctoral or master’s degree, there’s just, NO innovation in the approaches, which is why there’s this, inflation of the degrees here right now!
