In yet another tragedy related to children forgotten in hot cars, a 2-year-old was found dead after a day-care employee accidentally left him in a transportation vehicle for six hours.
According to the Miami Herald, Vision of Life Academy’s owner, Karen Julissa Aviles, picked up a group of children that included Angel Matute-Chavez as well as his 8-year-old brother. She reportedly told police that when they arrived back at the day-care facility, she hurried out of the vehicle because she was running late for a meeting and asked another employee to get the children from the van.
While the other kids, including Angel’s older brother, made it out of the car, the toddler was forgotten and wasn’t discovered until almost 4 p.m. When paramedics arrived, they found the unresponsive little boy bleeding from his nose and ears.
Not only was this day care not registered to transport children but also it allegedly failed to meet the state’s strict safety regulations, which require a second employee to “conduct a physical inspection and visual sweep of the vehicle to ensure that no child is left in the vehicle.”
Aviles has relinquished her state business license and was charged with aggravated manslaughter.
And, unfortunately, this was still, NOT an “isolated incident”, because there are always and forever going to BE adults who failed to pay enough attention to the children they’re looking after, and so, another kid had, ended up, DEAD! And, would you parents feel safe and secure, leaving your young children in the care of someone who’s so negligent, that she’d left a young child, in a HOT car? I wouldn’t think so!!!
