The Need to Become More Selfish as We Age

Because you’d lived, and worked hard, for the sake of others, and now, it’s time for you, isn’t it??? Translated…

Pearl is a business owner that’s half-retired, she said, that she’d worked so hard in the past, and now, her daughter is about to be wed, her son is working in his own business, she’d wanted to have a free life herself, so, she’d handed over her business to her husband to handle.

it’s all about the money here…

Recently, she’d sold her million-dollar car, and started riding a scooter instead. I’d asked her how come she’d started saving up? Pearl told me, that she’d gone to the nursing homes to visit the elderly from time to time with her girlfriends, she’d felt so much, a lot of the elderly there had money saved up, but they’d, given it all away, to their own children, and after they gave everything they’d owned away, their children had, deserted, and abandoned them. Seeing how bad those elderly had it, it’d made her realize, the importance of being a little more selfish as she ages, because, as we all age, even if we still wanted to work, we may not be able to, and that we shouldn’t believe, that if we’d given the assets to the kids, they will be, kind to us.

After hearing Pearl out, everybody believed in her reasoning. Lin said that after her parents passed the deeds of their property to her male siblings, the younger sister-in-law complained on the uneven split, and would make raucous every single day, it’d made her parents regret it. Wang also mentioned that after her parents split up the land they owned to her three older brothers, her brothers and her parents turned into strangers, that her eldest brother had even, sold off the land, and moved abroad, it’d broken her elderly parents’ hearts.

“We need to be more selfish as we get older, take good care of ourselves, that, is the most important thing, only money will take care of you, and even though money isn’t everything, but you’d have nothing, if you don’t have money.” Pearl wanted us, those about to enter into old age, to remember that.

So, this, is what’s happened here, you need to take care of yourselves, make sure you have enough money saved up, for old age, then, split the remaining amounts amongst your offspring, because if you kept nothing for yourselves, who’s to say, that after your children and grandchildren had their hands on your money, they will take care of you, after all, we no longer lived in the era, where we’re mostly bound, by the values of filial piety anymore.
