“I have another teacher who would come to the house to ask me if I’d eaten today, if I’m dressed warm enough.”, the “teacher” in these kids’ thoughts was actually, a social worker for the Fund for Family and Children, the office manager of the foundation’s branch in Keelung said, that they’d called themselves “teachers”, and a lot of her coworkers are using their lives, to accompany the children, until yesterday, they were invited to the events to celebrate the birthday of Confucius, she was very grateful toward these activities.
The Keelung office’s manager, Lin said, that in the earlier years when she’d visited the homes, she’d told the parents, “We’re social workers from the Taiwan Fund for Children & Families”, and as the parents heard they were teachers, they’d started showing enormous respect toward them, and for fifty years on end, the children and parents who were helped out by the foundation all referred to the social workers for the foundation as “teachers”.
As she worked as a social worker, there was a child who’d written her a letter, “I have another teacher, who’d visited my home regularly, asked me if I had enough to eat, if I have enough clothes on? If my dad’s feeling better, and if my mom’s work is going okay? I’m really glad that I’m different from the rest of my classmates.”, this letter had, moved her very deeply.
In the past, the Taiwan Fund for Children & Families had never involved itself in celebratory events like this one, there are, a lot of the social workers that she worked alongside, who’d given their lives, their passions, to the children they helped out. She was grateful toward the foundation for giving her an alternative kind of special Teacher’s Day.
